IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2025 guard Kiyan Anthony, son of Carmelo

For the second time in the last few weeks, Indiana has offered the son of an NBA great.

Kiyan Anthony, son of former Syracuse and NBA star Carmelo Anthony, announced an offer from IU on Monday evening.

Indiana has been involved with Anthony since 2022.

The 6-foot-4 Anthony attends Long Island Lutheran H.S. in New York.  He’s a 4-star prospect in the class of 2025, and the No. 68 overall player in the class according to the On3 Industry Average.

It should come as no surprise, Kiyan plays for Team Melo on the Nike EYBL circuit.  Through eight 16u Nike EYBL games, Anthony is averaging 17.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest.  He’s shooting 45.1 percent from the field overall, and 34.8 percent from three.

When IU coach Mike Woodson was the head coach of the New York Knicks he coached Carmelo for three years.

“I think the world of Carmelo,” Woodson said in a 2019 interview.  “We spent three years together and I was able to coach him and push him and I thought he responded in a big way.”

The good feeling run both ways.

“For me as a player, I had some of my best years under Mike Woodson.  So I would never have anything bad to say about Mike Woodson,” Carmelo said in 2014.

247Sports national analyst Eric Bossi watched Kiyan Anthony extensively this spring.

“Anthony impressed with deep shot making, the ability to attack of the dribble and he had some really nice live ball finds to teammates for easy buckets,” Bossi wrote last week.  “He’s still quite thin, but he appears to have stretched out some since the high school season and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s in the middle of his growth spurt. It was back between his sophomore and junior year – the summer of 2000 – when Anthony’s dad first rose to prominence and Kiyan is making big strides at the exact same time.”

Recently, IU also offered Jacob Wilkins, the class of 2025 son of Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique.  That relationship stems from Woodson’s time as the head coach of the Hawks.

Anthony also has offers from Syracuse, Tennessee, Seton Hall, UMass, Providence, Memphis, and others.
