IU basketball recruiting: Class of 2024 names to know — Tyler McKinley

Indiana already has one player from southwest Ohio in Logan Duncomb, and a commit in Gabe Cupps.  It’s an area where IU has good connections, and another player they are keeping a close eye on is 2024 power forward Tyler McKinley.

Indiana hasn’t offered McKinley to this point but the staff should be able to get a good look at him at the program’s team camp in Bloomington this weekend.  The Cincinnati, Ohio product will be playing there with his Walnut Hills H.S. team.

As a sophomore at Walnut Hills, McKinley earned Division I All-Ohio honorable mention honors as he led the school to a 23-3 season as he averaged 17.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while making 69 percent of his shots from the floor.

According to the 247Sports Composite, McKinley is a 4-star prospect ranked No. 60 overall in the 2024 class.

The 6-foot-9 and 210 pound McKinley is as tough-minded and aggressive as we’ve seen in the 2024 class this spring.  He plays hard on both ends, can score on the block or off the bounce, and he’s exceptionally skilled and agile when it comes to navigating traffic, playing through contact, and finishing with a soft touch or making the pass.  3-point shooting isn’t a big part of McKinley’s game to this point, but he does have the ability to step out and shoot the basketball.

Playing for All Ohio Red on the Nike EYBL 16u Circuit, he’s averaging 17.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 24.8 minutes per contest this spring.  He’s top-20 in scoring, top-5 in rebounds and top-10 in blocks in the EYBL for 16u.

So far McKinley has offers from Miami (Ohio), Cincinnati, South Carolina, Ohio, West Virginia, Xavier, Kansas State, Dayton and Ohio State.
