IU basketball class of 2023 point guard target Gabe Cupps is down to three schools he announced on Sunday.

Cupps will choose between Indiana, Stanford and Ohio State.  He has taken official visits to all three schools.

The 6-foot-2 Cupps has been on the Bloomington campus on multiple occasions.

“He is definitely interested in Indiana. He loves the basketball aspect of it for sure,” his father Brook told The Daily Hoosier earlier this month.

Cupps plans to make his final decision before the end of the year after watching his finalists play.

“Obviously with Indiana you haven’t seen them because they haven’t played yet with this staff,” Brook Cupps said.  “The things that Gabe is talking about are pace of play, how well they share the ball, how committed are they defensively — just the trademarks of good basketball and good teams and how well are they committed to doing that night in and night out.”

Playing for his father, Cupps led Centerville High School to the 2021 Ohio Division I state championship, the school’s first ever title.

A true point guard, Cupps averaged 15.2 points, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game while making 35 percent of his 3-pointers on 116 attempts and 82 percent of his free throws.

For AAU, Cupps plays up a year on Adidas sponsored Midwest Basketball Club based out of Ohio. He plays on that team with fellow Indiana 2023 prospect Reed Sheppard.

Cupps has been impressed with the new Indiana coaching staff.

“He’s (Mike Woodson) got a great staff, and his experience kind of speaks for itself,” Brook Cupps said.  “That recruits a lot of people with just his experience in the NBA and knowledge of the game. When you talk with him his love for Indiana basketball is genuine and that comes out in his recruiting.”

Indiana has one commit in the class of 2023, Georgia combo guard Jakai Newton, who told The Daily Hoosier he has already been in contact with Cupps.

Cupps also had offers from Clemson, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Dayton, Xavier, and Kansas State, among others.
