THREE KEYS TO THE GAME
1. Defense leads the way. P.J. Haggerty entered the game as the nation’s leading scorer at 28 points a game, and Kansas State came in averaging 92.8 per contest. With Conor Enright and Tayton Conerway teaming up on Haggerty, IU held him to an inefficient 16 points and 6 turnovers. And with 42.1% shooting and 19 turnovers, the Wildcats were more than 20 under their average.
2. Major contributions from players other than DeVries and Wilkerson. KSU did a good job limiting shots by IU’s leading scorers Tucker DeVries and Lamar Wilkerson. But several players stepped up to fill the void. Reed Bailey live at the line with physical finishes. He was 13 of 15 at the stripe and scored 21. Tayton Conerway got to the paint repeatedly and scored 19. Trent Sisley added 12 off the bench in 21 minutes.
3. Hoosiers control the glass. IU entered the game with questions about their ability to rebound the ball. But the Hoosiers outrebounded KSU 35-28 and allowed just eight offensive rebounds.
