BLOOMINGTON — Indiana defeated Kansas State at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Tuesday evening by a final score of 86-69.

The three keys to the game and final stats are below.  Highlights will be added shortly.

The Hoosiers led 39-27 at halftime.  They were led in the game by Reed Bailey with 21 points.  Tayton Conerway added 19.

No. 24/25 Indiana (6-0) will host Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at Noon ET.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Defense leads the way.  P.J. Haggerty entered the game as the nation’s leading scorer at 28 points a game, and Kansas State came in averaging 92.8 per contest.  With Conor Enright and Tayton Conerway teaming up on Haggerty, IU held him to an inefficient 16 points and 6 turnovers.  And with 42.1% shooting and 19 turnovers, the Wildcats were more than 20 under their average.  Well below considering they made two garbage-time threes against the IU walk-ons in the final minute.

    2. Major contributions from players other than DeVries and Wilkerson.  KSU did a good job limiting shots by IU’s leading scorers Tucker DeVries and Lamar Wilkerson.  But several players stepped up to fill the void.  Reed Bailey lived at the line with physical finishes.  He was 13 of 15 at the stripe and scored 21.  Tayton Conerway got to the paint repeatedly and scored 19.  Trent Sisley added 12 off the bench in 21 minutes.  And Conor Enright did a little bit of everything as the emotional leader on the floor.  Despite being the shortest player on the team he had a team-high six rebounds.

    3. Hoosiers control the glass.  IU entered the game with questions about their ability to rebound the ball.  But the Hoosiers outrebounded KSU 35-28 and allowed just eight offensive rebounds.  Two of those eight offensive rebounds by the Wildcats came in the final two minutes of the game.  Highlighting the team effort on the boards, four different Hoosiers had four or more rebounds.
