Things should start getting a bit more challenging for Indiana in Peru.
Playing as Team USA in the FISU America Games this week, the Hoosiers won their two group stage contests by an average score of 117.5 to 50.5.
Now it’s on to the elimination rounds, with the top two teams from each group forming a four-team winners bracket. The top team from Group B, Indiana will face Chile, the second place team in Group A. That game tips at 3 p.m. ET Saturday.
Chile is 2-1 at the event. It defeated Brazil 69-42, lost to Argentina 74-57, and beat Colombia 79-59.
6-foot-5 23-year-old Lucas Francisco Marquez is Chile’s leading scorer in the event, averaging 15.3 points per contest. 6-foot-7 24-year-old Alfredo Waugh is not far behind at 13.7.
Indiana will be wearing their white Team USA jerseys on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the IU vs. Chile game on Saturday is Argentina vs. the Virgin Islands in the other semifinal matchup. They tip at 1 p.m. ET. Argentina is the likely winner of that contest, and the team most likely to give Indiana a competitive game during this trip.
On Monday the semifinal losers will play at 2 p.m. ET, and the championship game tips at 4 p.m. ET.
All games Saturday and Monday will be played at the VES Sports Centre.
The games are once again expected to be streamed live on YouTube on the FISU America channel.
