    Michigan State’s Tom Izzo

Legendary head coach Tom Izzo enters his 29th season as head coach of the Michigan State men’s basketball program.

Across his seasons at the helm in East Lansing, Izzo has amassed a career record of 705-292, earning a win percentage of just over 70 percent across his seasons. The accolades do not come short, with the most notable in 2016, where Izzo was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Izzo has earned three Big Ten Coach of the Year awards, as well as multiple coach of the year awards by nationally-recognized outlets.

While leading the Spartans, Izzo has coached in 25 NCAA Tournament appearances, with the other two completed seasons were NIT appearances. Izzo has one NCAA Tournament title in 2000, along with eight Final Four appearances. The dominance doesn’t stop short in Big Ten either, with Izzo earning 10 Big Ten regular season titles and six Big Ten Tournament wins.

Izzo began his career coaching at the high school level, coaching just one season at Ishpeming High School in Michigan. He then returned to his alma mater as an assistant for four years before earning an assistant job at Michigan State in 1983. After an extensive career as an assistant, Izzo was finally named head coach in the spring of 1995. Izzo is currently the longest tenured head coach in the Big Ten.
