For the third season in a row, the Indiana University football team will have to deal with the loss of a major weapon on its offense.
In 2016 IU lost star wide receiver Simmie Cobbs on his first play of the season. The same thing happened in 2017 to Nick Westbrook.
IU announced today that running back Morgan Ellison has been suspended from the team indefinitely. It also announced that linebacker Mo Burnham has been suspended for the opener against Florida International.
Here is the language from the official release from IU:
“STATEMENT FROM INDIANA ATHLETICS AND INDIANA FOOTBALL
Indiana University student Morgan Ellison has been indefinitely suspended from all football activities.
Indiana University student Mo Burnham has been suspended for one game against Florida International University.”
IU has not provided any further details. We will update this story if more information becomes available.
Ellison is a sophomore from Ohio. He led the team in rushing last season with over 700 yards and was expected to play a big role in the 2018 campaign. The Daily Hoosier profiled Ellison here.
Burnham is a redshirt freshman from Georgia. He appeared as a backup linebacker on IU’s two deep depth chart released a few weeks ago.
