Indiana 89 Rutgers 73: Three Keys | Final Box Score | Specialty Stats

Indiana defeated Rutgers 89-73 on Sunday afternoon in the final regular season game of the 2018-19 season.

The Hoosiers (17-14, 8-12) will play in the Big Ten Tournament next week.

Stay tuned for our complete game recap with The Report Card.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

    1. Juwan Morgan goes out in style. You never know how a young man will handle the emotions of their final home game.  Morgan left no doubt about he was going to go about his business.  Morgan made his first 10 shots from the field and ended up with 25 points and 7 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play.  He struggled with foul trouble throughout the game but still managed to make a major impact and lead his team to their fourth straight win.

    2. The Hoosiers emphasize getting to the rim. Throughout the Big Ten slate opponents have emphasized turning Indiana into a perimeter shooting team.  For a long while that has been a successful strategy.  For the second straight game the Hoosiers were able to find driving lanes.  IU regularly attacked off the dribble rather than settling for three pointers.  That resulted in 48 points in the paint and just 18 attempts from three-point range.  IU shot 53.4% overall from the field.

    3.  IU continues to protect the ball.  The Hoosiers had just 6 turnovers on the day, 13 on the week.  Indiana is getting elite point guard play right now from Rob Phinisee and Devonte Green.  That has driven IU’s improved play over the last two weeks and could be a lethal combination for a post season run.
