“I want everyone to be clear, we are not satisfied”

Curt Cignetti made a splash when he stepped on the basketball court in 2023, just hours after his formal introduction as the new head coach of IU football.

In his second public appearance at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday afternoon, Cignetti didn’t name a list of schools that suck, but he still displayed some of his trademark swagger.

Cignetti is coming off an 11-2 first season as head coach that saw his Hoosiers make the College Football Playoff and contend for a Big Ten Championship.  IU finished No. 8 in the final CFP rankings and No. 10 in the final AP Top-25.  2024 marked just the third-ever finish by Indiana in the national top-10.

The Hoosiers have reloaded via the transfer portal and appear to have a good chance at sustained success in 2025.  ESPN projects Indiana as a preseason top-20 team.

So there’s plenty to be bold and confident right now if you’re Cignetti.

The fans erupted in applause as Cignetti and several IU football players walked onto the floor during a timeout at the basketball game on Sunday against Maryland.

Cignetti took the microphone, and the crowd went silent.  You never know what he’ll say in a setting like this.

“We would like to thank everyone for their tremendous, over the top support last season. Great job,” Cignetti began.

“Look there’s no doubt we accomplished a lot of firsts, but I want everyone to be clear:  We are not satisfied.

We’re full throttle now on the 2025 season. Look, let’s be loud today. Go IU!”

Full speed ahead for 2025. 😤
