Class of 2023 forward Kaleb Glenn looks like an NFL tight end but excels on the basketball court.
His secret weapon for both his physique and high degree of skill on the hardwood may just be an inanimate object sitting in his bedroom — the alarm clock.
According to his high school coach, Glenn’s daily routine begins at a time of day when the virtually everyone else in his hometown of Louisville is sound asleep.
“The thing with Kaleb is, he gets in the gym every day at 4:45 in the morning,” Louisville Male head coach Tim Haworth said on the Hoosier Report with Matt Denison on Thursday. “He gets in there and he works on his game every single morning, and he shoots at least 500 shots a day and he does it every single morning, 4:45 to 6:30.”
Glenn supplements his basketball training with weight training at home with his father, former Louisville wide receiver Vic Glenn. But don’t confuse the way Glenn looks for a traditional power forward.
The hours Glenn puts into his game have him moving further away from the basket. At 6-foot-7, Glenn is a big-bodied wing who has become a highly capable 3-point shooter. That is something IU assistant coach Dane Fife saw first hand last week.
“Coach Fife came in last week, and a lot of coaches did, and I told Coach Fife he went 75-for-100 from one of the wings the other day from three, and I think when Coach Fife was in there he went 81-out-of-100,” Haworth said. “So his shooting has just gotten astronomically better, and his ball handling has gotten better, so he’s becoming a guard with a 6-foot-7 and 215, 220 pound frame.”
Haworth said Louisville, West Virginia, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Texas A&M have all been in to see Glenn in addition to IU since the contact period opened up last week. The full IU staff came on Wednesday, making a clear statement that he is a high priority in the class of 2023.
Glenn has narrowed the focus of his recruitment to four primary suitors — Indiana, Louisville, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He will be a guest of the IU program on Oct. 2 for Hoosier Hysteria and he is targeting a winter decision.
