Head Coach Tom Allen Live Tweets Rewatch of 2018 Rain Soaked Win Over Virginia

Friday night was supposed to be an important night for the IU football program.

The 2020 Cream and Crimson spring game was scheduled to take place at Memorial Stadium, but it was of course canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Indiana head coach Tom Allen didn’t opt to take the night off.  Instead, he channeled his game day energy into a different format — his Twitter account.

Already active on the social media platform, Allen stepped it up on Friday night.  He enthusiastically live-tweeted a rewatch of Indiana’s 2018 win over Virginia in a rain soaked Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.

In total, Allen unofficially tweeted 139 timed during the re-airing of the game, highlighting key moments, questionable calls, and yes, his assault of a trash can after the win.

Indiana won the game of course, 20-16, and you can watch it below.  Here are some of Allen’s more notable tweets during the game.

It just kept Raining and Raining and Raining. All day long and all game long!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

The game was running back Stevie Scott’s first start, and he responded with 31 carries for 204 yards.

    Stevie Scott to the HOUSE!!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

1st of many TD’s by Stevie!!!!!! This was his coming out party!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

Despite the challenging conditions, quarterback Peyton Ramsey was 16-of-22 for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

The ball weighed 10 LB’s. Great throw by Peyton!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

I HATE penalties in Special Teams!!!!!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

We knew we HAD to have good balance on offense. Must run and throw with effectiveness. Our Big Men up front HAD to lead the way!!! And they Did!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

A mention during the broadcast of late former IU head coach Terry Hoeppner elicited this tweet from Allen.

Coach Hep is very special to me. I want to FINISH what he started here at IU!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

Thomas Allen gets his athleticism from his Mother!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

More than a year removed from the game, Allen was apparently not concerned about fines for questioning calls.

    Holding???? Seriously???

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 17, 2020

Wow…52 yard run to start the 2nd half!!!! Stevie Scott!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

I was amazed all game long how Stevie protected the ball. Terrible conditions and ZERO fumbles.

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

Knight, Martin, Littlejohn, Stepaniak and Cronk played Great!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

Our Fans were AWESOME!!!! Stayed through a constant down pour!!!!!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

Penalties on Special Teams drive me nuts!!!!!! Those penalties could make a Preacher cuss!!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

I am getting nervous watching it again…Ha!! And I know the outcome.

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

    Hoosiers WIN!!!!!!!!!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

Of course Allen was a good sport and commented on the moment after the game when he kicked over a trash can to reach more fans.

I about broke my toe by kicking a trash can full of water!!!

    — Coach Tom Allen (@CoachAllenIU) April 18, 2020

And of course we couldn’t talk about that moment without sharing it here.

    That’s OUR coach. #GoIU pic.twitter.com/lGsCoZqtDR
