Watch as 2 News WDTN profiled the legacy of IU freshman Gabe Cupps. The 2022 Ohio Mr. Basketball and 2021 state champion played for his father at Centerville H.S. just outside of Dayton, Ohio. As a senior at Centerville, Cupps averaged 15.4 points, 6.2 assists, 1.9 turnovers, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.  He shot 49.5 percent overall, 39.5 percent from three (on 119 attempts), and 91.6 percent from the free throw line. It was a strong year in the classroom for IU athletes.  Overall, the school set a record with 115 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award recipients. The group includes Anthony Leal from the IU men’s basketball team, four from the women’s basketball team, and five from the football program. Former IU basketball great Steve Alford was in northern Indiana this week for his family’s basketball camp affiliated with Huntington University. In an interview with WANE TV, Alford discusses the camp, the recent changes in college basketball, Bob Knight, and more. Alford graduated as IU’s all-time leading scorer.  He is currently the head coach at Nevada. He set an NCAA record with his seven baskets from beyond the arc in the 1987 national championship game, a victory over Syracuse that would secure a fifth national title for the Hoosiers.
