BLOOMINGTON — Throughout IU women’s basketball’s turbulent season, head coach Teri Moren has often faced questions about her team’s weaknesses and struggles. And she frequently just doesn’t have the answers. On several occasions, Indiana’s 11th-year coach has made clear that if she did have those solutions, she’d fix the problems immediately. But on Thursday, Moren didn’t hesitate. After another disappointing result, a 74-60 loss to No. 19 Maryland on senior night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, she had no trouble identifying what her team has been lacking. “It’s focus. I mean, that’s what’s missing. We’re not a very focused team,”…

With two games remaining in the regular season, Indiana women’s basketball is closing in on a potential sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth. The Hoosiers aren’t quite in lock territory yet, with a much less sparkling résumé than they’ve had the last several years. But they appear to be in good shape heading into Thursday’s senior night game against No. 19 Maryland, and a win over the Terps should be enough to seal it. As of Wednesday night, IU is ranked No. 30 in Bart Torvik’s T-Rank and No. 36 in the NET. Here’s how Teri Moren’s team is stacking up in…
BLOOMINGTON — No matter how things play out for Indiana men’s basketball going into March, one thing is clear about this team. Despite a turbulent season with plenty of distractions and extenuating circumstances, the Hoosiers are still fighting hard. IU entered Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Wednesday coming off its biggest win of the season, with a west coast trip looming, and faced a Penn State team sitting near the bottom of the Big Ten standings. This was a prime letdown spot for a team battling to keep its improbably optimistic NCAA Tournament hopes alive. The Hoosiers, not long ago,…
Indiana women’s basketball’s bumpy season is at a crucial point. The Hoosiers likely sit on the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble with two regular season games remaining, but their margin for error remains slim. However, a senior night win over No. 19 Maryland on Thursday in Bloomington should allow them to exhale. IU picked up its biggest win of the season last week over then-No. 8 Ohio State, but then squandered that momentum with a loss at then-No. 22 Michigan State Sunday. That’s the way this entire campaign has gone for Indiana — aside from a December winning…

His Tigers went to the Sweet 16 in 2018 and the Elite Eight last year. He previously…
BLOOMINGTON — Anthony Leal grew up in Bloomington, right down the road from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. He was named Mr. Basketball in 2020 while playing for Bloomington High School South. He’s lived out the dreams of so many boys growing up in Bloomington, by getting a scholarship to play for IU. And though his Hoosiers career has been a bumpy ride, he’s finally taken those dreams one step further in his fifth and final season: he’s become a key player and a fan favorite. Leal entered head coach Mike Woodson’s starting lineup in mid-January at Ohio State, and he’s…
Through public record request, The Daily Hoosier obtained copies of the fully executed contract between Indiana and quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Chandler Whitmer, as well as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Bryant Haines’ new contract from earlier in February. Haines agreed to a three-year contract, ending in Jan. 2028. His base salary is $450,000 per year, along with outside, marketing, and promotion income that raises each year: $1.55 million for the 2025 season, $1.65 million for the 2026 season, and $1.75 million for 2027. Haines also gets a biannual $75,000 retention bonus, paid on Jan. 31 and July 31 each…
This is the third in a series of profiles of potential candidates for Indiana’s open basketball head coaching position. Candidate: Scott Drew Age: 54 Current position, tenure: Baylor head coach since 2003 Previous Jobs: Valparaiso head coach 2002-03; Valparaiso assistant coach 1993-02 Accomplishments: Drew orchestrated one of the greatest turnarounds in college sports history at Baylor. He took over a program awash with scandal and facing NCAA sanctions, and the Bears didn’t have a particularly bright history aside from that. But Drew led them out of those doldrums, turned them into a perennial contender, and reached the mountaintop with them by…
BLOOMINGTON — Indiana women’s basketball badly needed a get-right game after another rough stretch. Enter the Big Ten’s worst team. Indiana completely dominated in-state rival Purdue Saturday, cruising to a 78-56 victory at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. IU (16-9, 8-6 Big Ten) kept the Barn Burner Trophy in Bloomington with the win, its 12th in a row over the Boilermakers (9-16, 2-12). The rivalry provided all the motivation Sydney Parrish needed for the game. “We were playing Purdue. I think a lot of people know how a kid from Indiana feels about the team up north,” the graduate student said…
BLOOMINGTON — Mike Woodson sat at the dais in the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall media room on Friday looking equally perplexed and frustrated. His Indiana men’s basketball team let another close game slip away in the final minutes, in a 72-68 defeat to UCLA. The Hoosiers (15-11, 6-9 Big Ten) have now lost seven of their last eight games and 10 of their last 12. Four of those defeats — with three coming against ranked opponents — came down to the end. It’s another wasted opportunity to somehow revive a season that continues to feel like it’s circling the drain.…
