Indiana football is sweetening the deal for defensive coordinator Bryant Haines. Per a report from 247Sports, IU has given Haines a new contract amidst rival interest. This is the second time after the end of the regular season that Haines has agreed to a new deal with the Hoosiers, after they handed out raises to all their assistants in December. Haines is one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, given to the top assistant coach in college football. The winner will be announced on Feb. 13. Haines was also a semifinalist for the award in 2023 at James Madison.…

Coming off a two-game losing streak, Indiana women’s basketball found itself in a rock fight on Friday. The Hoosiers endured a defensive battle against Oregon in Eugene, in their first leg of a two-game west coast swing. And ultimately, the Ducks outlasted IU, 54-47. This gave Indiana its first three-game losing streak since the end of the 2021-22 regular season. “I got to take responsibility. We didn’t look like a very well-coached team tonight,” IU head coach Teri Moren said after the game. “Every game is important. These guys know it. They were obviously disappointed after Illinois, and certainly USC. But…
EVANSTON, Ill. — After Indiana men’s basketball closed Wednesday’s first half on an 18-2 run, Northwestern head coach Chris Collins laid out the stakes for his team. Northwestern, coming off a disappointing overtime loss at Michigan, couldn’t afford to let a game like this slip away in a relentless Big Ten schedule. Collins knew that’s how this contest was trending, and he made that clear to his Wildcats. And in the locker room at halftime, he challenged them. “I said, ‘Guys, it’s not panic time, but it’s extreme sense of urgency time,'” Collins said after the game. “I just told…
Indiana head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson has no complaints about Trey Galloway. The fifth-year senior has dealt with inconsistency this season, and his numbers are mostly down from last year. During IU’s ugly 25-point loss to Illinois, fans relentlessly booed Galloway all game, even when he wasn’t on the court. The guard has had some good games sprinkled in amongst the middling performances and the rough outings so far this season. But overall, Woodson knows Galloway’s effort has remained consistent “Trey Galloway came off a major knee surgery, probably a knee surgery that probably takes a little over a…
BLOOMINGTON — Indiana women’s basketball, for the first time since 2019, is on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. There’s still plenty of time for the Hoosiers to build up their résumé before March arrives. And they already appear to be on the right side of the bubble, entering Saturday a No. 9 seed in ESPN’s Women’s Bracketology. But that positioning gives increased importance to every game — not for hosting or seeding purposes, like recent years, but for simply making the field. That contextualizes Indiana’s performance on Sunday against No. 4 Southern California at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, a…
After his team bounced back from its recent slump, Indiana head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson wouldn’t comment on the outside noise surrounding his program during the week. The Hoosiers endured back-to-back 25-point losses against Iowa and Illinois, which turned up the volume on Woodson’s critics and the program’s cynics. Fans relentlessly booed him and his players during the home loss to the Fighting Illini, creating a particularly ugly atmosphere at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. But IU got the job done on Friday, coming back for a 77-76 overtime win at Ohio State. Woodson lauded his team, while rebuking the…
BLOOMINGTON — Coming off an encouraging road win at Iowa, Indiana women’s basketball turned in a disappointing performance. The Hoosiers had some old issues resurface on Thursday in a 68-54 loss to Illinois at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. IU (12-5, 4-2 Big Ten) got off to a rocky start, as the Fighting Illini (13-4, 3-3) scored 25 points in the first quarter and built a double-digit lead that kept them ahead for the rest of the night. IU head coach Teri Moren and her squad have to regroup quickly, with No. 4 USC coming to Bloomington on Sunday. Here are…
BLOOMINGTON — The constant boos inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Tuesday spoke volumes. But the empty seats spoke louder. Throughout Mike Woodson’s three-plus seasons as Indiana men’s basketball head coach, the program has seen plenty of highs and plenty of lows. But no night in Woodson’s tenure swung further towards either extreme than Tuesday’s game against No. 19 Illinois. After IU got crushed at Iowa over the weekend, fans showed up ticked off before the contest even began. The crowd booed Woodson during pregame introductions louder than they’d booed all season. But that was only the appetizer to the…
Indiana women’s basketball’s matchups against Iowa in recent years were defined by clashes of top-10 teams and two of the best players in the country in Mackenzie Holmes and Caitlin Clark. This season’s version carried a different feeling without that star power, so the heat was turned down a bit on this game. And that worked in Indiana’s favor on Sunday. IU controlled the contest for its entirety and defeated Iowa, 74-67, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It’s just the program’s second victory in Iowa City in the last 30 years. The Hoosiers (12-4, 4-1 Big Ten) played well on both ends…
