Three. On a pure per capita basis, that’s how many Indiana based kids should be ranked in the top 150 high school players in the boys basketball class of 2021. But this is Indiana. So how about nine? We’ve told you about the breadth and depth of the Indiana-based talent in 2021, and the latest rankings by 247Sports provide further evidence that this is indeed a uniquely loaded in-state class. Schools like IU are generally looking to recruit almost exclusively within the top 150, so clearly they won’t be able to target everyone in the class that is good enough…
It was dubbed “A Knight to Remember.” 35 years later, it is a night that is difficult to imagine. Only in Indiana could the confluence of several factors combine to produce the largest ever indoor basketball crowd in history — for an exhibition game. Indiana head basketball coach Bob Knight was the head coach of Team USA in 1984, and before they headed to Los Angeles for the Olympic Games, his American squad played a series of exhibition games. On July 9, 1984, the stop was Indianapolis. Of course the locals wanted to see Knight and a Team USA roster…

Nine entire seasons. 1973, 1975, 1976, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2007, and 2016 to be precise. Throughout most of its 48 year history, Indiana basketball’s current home arena has been a veritable “hall of horrors” for those who have dared to enter. Those nine seasons Indiana went undefeated at home, including a stretch from February 1991 to January 1995 without a single blemish at the friendly confines. For this writer, losing at home was almost literally unheard of. Entering IU as freshman in 1991, I didn’t see a home loss until my senior year. There were no gimmicky student section…
Going into his ninth season as a college basketball head coach and third at Indiana, Archie Miller has entered uncharted territory. While he has assembled entirely new assistant coaching staffs when he took over the jobs at Dayton and IU, Miller has never dealt with replacing an assistant mid-tenure. With former Hoosier assistant Ed Schilling moving on, Miller now has that task in front of him, and the stakes are quite high. After assembling just a 35-31 record over his first two seasons in Bloomington, things have transitioned from optimism to a bit head scratching among Indiana fans. Miller needs…
Indiana women’s basketball got some late fireworks on Friday as an already deep and talented roster got deeper for the 2020-21 season. Guard Ali Patberg has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. An All-Big Ten Second team honoree in 2018-19, Patberg will now be eligible to suit up for IU through the 2020-21 season, marking what will be her third season with the Hoosiers. Patberg hails from Columbus, Ind. and transferred to IU from Notre Dame in 2017. The 2015 Indiana Miss Basketball missed her freshman season in South Bend with a knee injury and played…

One of the top players in the Midwest in the class of 2021 is Fort Wayne’s Caleb Furst. Furst, who attends Blackhawk Christian School, is ranked as the No. 33 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite and the number two player in the state of Indiana. Indiana offered the 6-foot-9 forward a scholarship in October. Furst has been to Bloomington on multiple occasions and he attended a game in February against Ohio State. For his sophomore season, Furst averaged 19.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Blackhawk won the 2019 Class 1A Indiana state championship,…
Indiana’s all-time assist leader was delivered good news on Independence Day. According to a report by James Ham of NBC Sports California, the Sacramento Kings have decided to keep Ferrell and waive former Kansas point guard Frank Mason. After the Kings signed former Pacer Cory Joseph earlier in the week, it appeared likely that either Ferrell or Mason would be let go. Sacramento had until Thursday to either guarantee Ferrell’s $3.2 million salary for the 2019-20 season or waive him. The team opted for the former, and will retain the 26-year-old point guard for a second season. Now the challenge…
