The Indiana University men’s soccer program has high standards. Really high standards. The kind of standards that you can only realistically expect to achieve when you are both presently and historically one of, if not the best, programs in the country. So far the Hoosiers are achieving those goals in historic fashion. Job one was to win the Big Ten regular season and IU did that — and did it in style — securing their first perfect Big Ten record since 2002. Due to league expansion, it was the first time in conference history a team has gone 8-0-0. Next…

Things sure didn’t look promising at the outset. With Maryland marching down the field on two consecutive drives sandwiched around an IU three and out, bowl eligibility looked like a lost cause for Indiana. Much like the Minnesota game two weeks ago, the Hoosiers were on their heels on defense and inept on offense. While Tom Allen’s defense was bent — it didn’t break in the early going, and those early drives only resulted in a 6-0 Maryland lead. Ultimately, that may have been the key to the game. Next a combination of what IU has severely lacked on the…

The Hoosiers moved to 2-0 on the season with a convincing 80-35 win over the Montana State Bobcats. The schedule will get more challenging next week with a home game against Marquette and a road contest at Arkansas, but on this night IU put forth a complete effort. Friday night’s contest was dominated by IU for most of the game, with the Hoosiers holding a lead of 30 or more points for the last 18 minutes of the game. Several big runs in the first half and beginning of the second half put the game out of reach. A seemingly…

Below are our three keys to the game and the final box score and specialty statistics. 1. Balanced Scoring Continues to Rule the Day — Including the exhibition, this game marked the third contest in a row where IU had several players in double figures. It feels like an eternity since Indiana has played a football game. The Hoosiers are coming off a bye week after a demoralizing loss at Minnesota two weeks ago. It felt appropriate to call that game in Minneapolis a “must win” but with two home games remaining, that characterization was debatable. Now, with IU needing two wins to reach bowl eligibility and a trip to Ann Arbor tucked in between those two home contests — it is undeniable — Indiana must defeat Maryland. While it has been another agonizing roller coaster football season in Bloomington, IU has nothing on Maryland.…
