Favour Aire’s size has always been an asset when it comes to sports. But up until recently, he had no idea that basketball in the U.S. would be his chosen path as an athlete. As a soccer defender and goalie in Nigeria, Aire’s size and athleticism presented a substantial obstacle to opposing attacks. Perhaps he would become an international soccer star? Instead, Aire was noticed on the hardwood just over three years ago — and suddenly, everything changed. Aire only took up the game of basketball in the 7th grade. Now in Maryland, he has traded in the cleats for…

As we continue to wait for Big Ten football, the NFL rolls on. Three weeks of the 2020 season are already complete for 11 former IU stars with teams in the league. Take a look at how they did in week three with our quick weekly recap of the Hoosiers in the NFL. Tevin Coleman (RB) – San Francisco 49ers Coleman did not play on Sunday. He was placed on the 49ers’ injured reserve list as he contends with a sprained knee. The injury is not expected to be season ending and Coleman can return in a few weeks. Under new…
“Much more in the realm of how we want to do it.” Did you catch that? Indiana head basketball coach Archie Miller let us all in on a little secret at his last media availability in late July. How he wants to do it is “more perimeter oriented with more guard play” as Miller put it. By logical inference, how he did it last year — with a two power-forward and one center starting lineup — was how Miller didn’t want to do it. But he did it. 31 out of 32 games, the combination of Justin Smith, Trayce Jackson-Davis…
Class of 2021 forward Bryce Hopkins was expected to announce his top five schools this weekend. Instead, he announced a change of plans on on Friday night. The former Louisville commit remains down to a top nine of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Texas, Iowa State, Providence, Illinois, California and Oregon. A top-30 prospect in the class of 2021, Hopkins made the announcement on his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/BryceHopkins/status/1309672290368524289?s=20 Since Kentucky entered the mix and offered Hopkins a scholarship last month, most have speculated that he will end up in Lexington. While that may end up being the case, Hopkins’ father Clyde said…
The state of Indiana is loaded in the trenches in the high school class of 2022. One of the best is Fort Wayne Snider offensive lineman Demon Moore. A 4-star recruiting target, the 6-foot-4 and 295 pound Moore is the No. 274 player overall in the class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite. Indiana was Moore’s first Division One scholarship offer. He was a high school teammate of, and on the same line at Snider with current IU freshman Randy Holtz. Along with IU, Moore has offers from an impressive list of suitors including Arizona State, Ohio State, Penn…
Zach McRoberts is one of the best known walk-ons in the recent history of the IU basketball program. The Carmel, Ind. product joined Jackson Yeary and Jared Rigdon on The Basketball State podcast. McRoberts spent his freshman season at Vermont before walking-on at IU and playing for the Hoosiers from 2016 through 2019. Best known for his hustle and defense, McRoberts played in 85 games for IU. One of his most memorable moments was a last second rebound and assist that set up Juwan Morgan for a game-winning dunk against Notre Dame in 2017. For more on McRoberts’ story, GO…
It is no secret that Indiana’s traditional non-conference schedule is designed in part to increase the odds of reaching a post season bowl game. Since college football expanded to a 12 game schedule, a .500 or better record has been generally required to become bowl eligible. With most teams abandoning non-conference play in 2020 due to the pandemic, reaching the .500 mark won’t be easy. Indiana appears likely to find at least four wins in its revised eight game all-Big Ten schedule, but a ninth game against a to be determined Big Ten West opponent certainly leaves things hazy. In…
In 2003 Indiana fought St. John’s and a December Ohio snow storm on its way to a national championship at the NCAA’s College Cup. Because of the less than ideal conditions often encountered during the men’s soccer NCAA Tournament, many believe that the season is more optimally suited for the spring. Consider 2021 a trial run. The NCAA Division I fall championships will be conducted in the spring as outlined in recommendations from the Division I Council and supported by the Division I Presidential Forum, the Division I Board of Directors decided Tuesday. “The plan sent to us by the…
The history of the Indiana football program is replete with examples of positive momentum meeting an unfortunate turn of events. During the golden age in the 40’s, head coach Bo McMillin left suddenly for the Detroit Lions. Less than two years after a 1968 Rose Bowl appearance, and on their way to what appeared to be a third straight winning season, John Pont’s Hoosier team saw 10 players quit the team mid-season in 1969. The program failed to achieve another winning season for a decade. Head coach Terry Hoeppner seemed to have everything going in the right direction before his…
Indiana has been spending a lot of time, virtually anyway, in the backyard of the University of Virginia. The Hoosiers offered a scholarship to class of 2022 Charlottesville wing Justin Taylor a few weeks ago, and they are taking a close look at his high school teammate too. St. Anne’s Belfield School sophomore forward Carter Lang had an impressive freshman season that caught IU’s attention. Lang’s school first reported Indiana’s interest back in July. As a freshman, Lang averaged 12 points and 9.1 rebounds and 1 block per game in just over 18 minutes per contest. Lang shot 63 percent…
