Indiana basketball’s recruiting class of 2021 has risen to respectability in the national rankings thanks in large part to the rise of recent addition Tamar Bates. The Kansas City, Kan. product jumped from No. 60 to No. 26 in 247Sports’ final rankings for the incoming freshman class. Bates remains a 4-star prospect according to the recruiting service. His updated rating makes him the eleventh highest rated player to sign with Indiana during the recruiting service rankings era. Previously, Bates had never been ranked inside the top-90 by 247Sports before a late surge over the last six months. Fellow IU 2021…
Indiana’s recruiting targets in the class of 2023 are starting to take shape, and one of the more intriguing prospects hails from just south of the Hoosier state. Although coaches cannot initiate contact with class of 2023 prospects until June 15, Indiana’s staff has made it clear that they have strong interest in North Laurel, Ky. shooting guard Reed Sheppard. Sheppard put up impressive numbers during his sophomore campaign at North Laurel High School, scoring 30.1 points per game, tied for first in the state. He also led the Jaguars in assists with 7.1 per game, and shot 55.8% from…

“So Karen (Knight), Coach (Bob Knight), I love you guys and for me this is a complete circle,” new Indiana head coach Mike Woodson said in March, paying homage to his former head coach in his opening remarks at his introductory press conference. Only a year earlier, it was Woodson who played a key role in Knight’s circular path back to IU. Woodson said at the time he spent a month in Bloomington last year prior to Bob Knight’s return to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on February 8, 2020, seemingly on watch to do what he could to ensure that…
Mike Woodson has made it clear that 3-point shooting will be a point of emphasis in his program, and Indiana is keeping a close eye on one of the best from long range in the class of 2022. Indiana has joined virtually every other Big Ten program when it comes to the recruitment of Yorkville, Ill. based shooting guard Jaden Schutt. The Hoosiers have leveraged time spent by a new assistant at another Big Ten foe to jumpstart the process. “Dane Fife is a guy that I talked to at Michigan State, and obviously he is a new assistant at…
New IU football defensive coordinator Charlton Warren completed his first spring practice season with the program a few weeks ago. The 44 year old Georgia native was hired by Tom Allen in January after spending two seasons as a defensive backs coach with the University of Georgia. Warren discussed his approach this spring, the veteran and young standouts, the defensive line, and much more. New Indiana coach Mike Woodson continues to round out his staff. On Monday the program announced the addition of team and recruitment analyst Mike Stump, who hails from central Indiana and attended Cathedral High School. Stump was most recently with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants organization. Stump worked as an assistant under Cathedral and Indy Heat head coach Jason Delaney and coached former Hoosier Armaan Franklin in 2018-19. IU fans will have to look the other way on Stump’s alma mater. He was a manager for the Kentucky men’s basketball program during his time as a student in Lexington. There…
The Daily Hoosier was at the Bill Hensley Memorial Run ‘n Slam in Fort Wayne this weekend, watching and talking to IU recruiting prospects. For this weekend we focused primarily on the class of 2022, because that is where the IU staff has been primarily focused to this point. We will continue to dig deeper into the class of 2023 and beyond as the spring and summer rolls on. Here are some of our key notes from the weekend. Leland Walker is a class of 2022 Indianapolis based guard who has been on the IU radar for well over a…
You can watch recent spring highlights of class of 2022 top-100 4-star guard Rodney Rice below. Indiana has been recruiting the 6-foot-4 DeMatha High School product since assistant coach Kenya Hunter joined the staff in August. Rice told Rivals’ national writer Jamie Shaw this weekend that Indiana was one of a relatively small group of schools that he was considering for a visit this summer. “They are a historic program there,” Rice told Shaw of Indiana. “I have been in contact with the new assistant coach Kenya Hunter, he was recruiting me already when he was at UConn so when…
