Indiana lost to Purdue by a final score of 67-58 on Saturday afternoon at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind. It was Indiana’s fifth straight loss on the season, and ninth straight to Purdue. The Hoosiers trailed 29-20 at halftime and never got closer than 35-31 in second half. IU was led by Al Durham with 14 points. Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jerome Hunter both added 12. The IU women’s basketball program closed out the regular season in style with a 74-59 win over in-state rival Purdue on Saturday afternoon in Bloomington. The Hoosiers went into the fourth leading, 53-51. That’s when Indiana turned on the jets, dominating the fourth quarter, 21-8. A Mackenzie Holmes lay-in began a 14-2 run for Indiana. With 4:14 left to play, the Hoosiers would go on another 7-0 run and lead by as many as 17. No series has magnified Indiana’s recent struggles more than their two annual matchups with Purdue. Overall Indiana has lost eight in a row and 10 of 11 to their in-state rival, and Hoosiers’ head coach Archie Miller has yet to claim a win in the series. In an ordinary year, Indiana’s senior day is a festive moment where departing players are given the opportunity to step up the microphone and give speeches to the home crowd at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. It has been a challenging first year on the job for Indiana Director of Athletics Scott Dolson. First he took over the department at a time when the country was in the throes of the pandemic. Indiana has welcomed three high profile transfers to its roster for the 2021 season. Ryder Anderson (DL, Ole Miss), D.J. Matthews (WR, Florida State) and Zach Carpenter (OL, Michigan) are all on campus and training with the program, and all three will be participating in spring practice which begins on March 9. If you have missed watching IU basketball in person this year, you will have a narrow opportunity to see the Hoosiers live next week. The Big Ten announced on Thursday that it is allowing limited fan attendance at its 2021 men’s basketball tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
