Indiana’s depth at the running back position has taken another hit. At his regular Monday morning press conference, head coach Tom Allen announced that junior David Ellis has had season-ending surgery on his ankle after aggravating a recurring injury against Western Kentucky two weeks ago. “We tried to rehab him and get him back, but that wasn’t working the right way, so for his long-term prognosis, they did [surgery],” Allen said. “He should have a full recovery and we will get him squared away for his future, because he has a bright one. I truly believe that. He has struggled…
Much has changed since Indiana’s dominant 24-0 shutout win over Michigan State in East Lansing 11 months ago. With Tom Allen finding his groove and new Michigan State coach Mel Tucker seemingly in a search for the program floor post Mark Dantonio, it looked like IU had climbed a rung on the Big Ten East ladder for the foreseeable future. The Hoosiers would go on to finish the 2020 season with a 6-1 Big Ten record while Tucker’s Spartans went 2-5. In August ESPN’s FPI system gave then No. 17 IU a 71.5% chance to beat unranked Michigan State. With…
When Indiana fans get their first look at new head coach Mike Woodson’s approach on both ends of the floor in just under a month, it won’t resemble what they reluctantly grew accustomed to over the last four years. The pack-line defense has been packed-up and moved out. Same goes for the more structured offensive approach of the Archie Miller era. And at least until the ball tips on Nov. 9 in Bloomington, the change has produced more smiles from the players — when they catch their breath. One of the overarching themes of Woodson’s approach to the game is…
Mike Woodson knew two things when he retired from the NBA as a player in 1991. First, he was content with moving back to Bloomington and focusing on his real estate business with fellow former IU star Scott May. And second, he didn’t know anything about or have any interest in coaching. But a man named Lowell, and better known as Cotton changed everything — and would ultimately be responsible for Woodson focusing on the Bloomington real estate at 1001 East 17th Street. “I got a call by a guy by the name of Cotton Fitzsimmons,” Woodson said on Friday…
