Parker Stewart will return to UT Martin for his final season of college basketball. The 6-foot-5 guard arrived at IU from UT Martin in January, 2021 after his father and UT Martin head coach Anthony Stewart passed prior to the 2020-21 season. Stewart paid homage to his father in a social media post announcing the move. “One thing I’ve learned in life is to never take time around the people you love for granted,” Stewart said on his Twitter page. “I will be using my additional year of eligibility and will be returning HOME, to UTM for my final season. The Nike EYBL Circuit was in the north Indianapolis suburbs over the weekend, and The Daily Hoosier was there all three days to get a closer look at some of the players Indiana is recruiting in the classes of 2023 through 2025. The event was a whose-who of college basketball. We saw 13 of the 14 head coaches in the Big Ten, and three members of the IU staff. Mike Woodson, Kenya Hunter and Yasir Rosemond were there at various points. Here are our notes about three of the class of 2023 prospects Indiana is involved with. Kwame (KJ) Evans…

The younger brother of an IU nemesis is being recruited by the Hoosiers. Indiana offered class of 2024 6-foot-6 combo guard Dylan Harper on Sunday. He is the younger brother of former Rutgers star Ron Harper, Jr., and the son of long-time NBA veteran Ron Harper. Already, Ron Harper, Jr., who hit a game-winner in Bloomington in early March, had some fun with the news. https://twitter.com/__RHJR/status/1518355897021521921?s=20&t=91ixT8DLRXztVs8v5R9wog The younger Harper attends Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J. A high-end 4-star, he is ranked No. 33 overall in the class of 2024 according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 2 overall…
Indiana didn’t land West Virginia transfer guard Sean McNeil, but they’ll see more of him next year. The 6-foot-3 McNeil wrapped up a visit at Indiana on Friday, but it was his next visit that sealed the deal. McNeil left Bloomington for Columbus, Ohio, and he left there a Buckeye. He announced his commitment to Ohio State on Sunday evening. Ohio State will likely need to replace a significant scoring load if E.J. Liddell and Malaki Branham stay in the NBA Draft. The addition of McNeil (12 ppg) is the second transfer portal pickup of the offseason for Chris Holtmann,…
Indiana forward Jordan Geronimo announced on Sunday he will return to the program for a third season. “Let’s get to it!!,” Geronimo said in a Twitter post accompanied by a video that ended with “I’m back.” The 6-foot-6 and 225 pound Geronimo played in 34 games off the bench in 2021-22 and averaged 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per contest. He tied for second on the team with 24 blocked shots, and among per-40-minute stats, he was seventh in the Big Ten in blocks and rebounds. Aided by his more than 40-inch vertical and plus-six wingspan, Geronimo…

With the signing of class of 2022 forward Malik Reneau earlier this week, Indiana is officially at the maximum of 13 players on scholarship as of this writing. There are still moving parts to sort out, including Trayce Jackson-Davis’ decision to stay in or exit the NBA Draft. IU also had two transfer portal prospects in Bloomington on official visits this week — Wichita State’s Dexter Dennis, and West Virginia’s Sean McNeil. In the unlikely hypothetical that both of those players committed to IU, and Jackson-Davis chose to return, the Hoosiers would be oversigned by two players going into the…
When wide receiver D.J. Matthews went down on the turf at Western Kentucky in September, in many ways, Indiana’s 2021 season took a dramatic turn at that same moment. Matthews was Indiana’s primary playmaker, and without him for the remainder of the season, throwing windows became incredibly tight — an especially challenging factor as IU dipped further and further into the quarterback depth chart as the season progressed. If he can return to his pre-injury form, Matthews should provide a boost to the offense. But who will step up and join him as IU’s primary pass-catching targets? Indiana has two…
The weeks following the conclusion of spring practice have become a new window when transfer portal activity seems to spike. For many, entry into the portal in the spring comes after the realization by a player that he is well down the depth chart, and likely does not have good near-term, and possibly even long-term, potential to see the field in the fall. That did not appear to be the case for redshirt freshman defensive back Maurice Freeman. Just a few weeks ago, head coach Tom Allen specifically mentioned him as someone who was progressing nicely. “Maurice is a guy…
