Well that was interesting.  Indiana followed a dominant 32 minutes with a near-disastrous collapse, but the result is what matters on the NCAA Tournament resume.  And that was an 84-79 Big Ten road win for IU at Minnesota. Indiana defeated Minnesota on Sunday evening by a final score of 84-79 at Williams Arena in Minneapolis. The Hoosiers led 40-33 at halftime and were led in the game by Xavier Johnson with 24 points and 8 assists.  Trayce Jackson-Davis added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Indiana’s razor thin point guard depth could get a boost on Sunday evening in Minneapolis. Senior Rob Phinisee is warming up with his teammates and appears ready to at least attempt to play as IU takes on Minnesota at Williams Arena.  IU Athletics later confirmed Phinisee is expected to play.  On his pre-game radio interview, head coach Mike Woodson indicated Phinisee might not play a major role in his first game back, however. The Carolina Panthers are bringing back former IU football tight end Ian Thomas the franchise reported on Friday. The team has agreed to terms with Thomas on a new three-year contract. He was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent on March 16.  NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thomas’ new deal is worth $16.5 million with $8 million fully guaranteed. Thomas, Carolina’s fourth-round pick in 2018, had 18 receptions for 188 yards in 2021. A once promising season that saw Indiana ranked in the top-5 and in first place in the Big Ten by multiple games has ended on a sour note. Maurice Creek dealt with a lot of physical trauma during his time in Bloomington. But the emotional stress he is under right now in Ukraine makes those injuries seem relatively insignificant. The 31-year-old Creek has been playing professional basketball in Ukraine since 2019.  In January he signed with MBC MYKOLAIV of the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague. Indiana absolutely needed a win, and they got it.  The Hoosiers knocked off Maryland 74-64 in Bloomington on Thursday evening to snap a five-game losing streak and keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
