The news came quick last week. In the span of about 48 hours, IU went from over-signed by three players to an open scholarship for the 2022-23 team. Khristian Lander, Michael Durr, Parker Stewart and Rob Phinisee all put their names in the transfer portal, and none of those decisions could be chalked up as a major surprise by anyone paying close attention. Indiana has three class of 2022 recruits signed up for next season, meaning they have a net opening of one scholarship for the 2022-23 roster. But we aren’t finished with the stay-or-go decisions from the 2021-22 team. …

March 30, 1981 — Philadelphia, Pennsylvania It was the team that looked like it couldn’t get there, and the game that looked like it wouldn’t happen. Despite a preseason top five ranking, Indiana finished their nonconference schedule with a 7-5 record including a loss to Texas Rio Grande Valley in late December that knocked them completely out of the national rankings. Also included in the early season loss column was a 65-56 defeat at the hands of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C., on Dec. 20. But Indiana would rally to win 11 of their last 13 Big Ten games,…

A year ago Brian Walsh was busy trying to figure out his next move. And that included a likely literal, packing up and leaving Bloomington, kind of move. After his long-time boss Archie Miller was fired last March, Walsh, then the IU basketball program’s director of basketball operations, was one of the many unseen faces impacted by a coaching change. “I was trying to figure it out,” Walsh said on Tuesday.  “Arch got let go and I was kind of in limbo of what was going to happen, looking for other opportunities, trying to figure it out. Very uncertain time…

Mike Woodson said following Indiana’s season-ending loss to St. Mary’s his team’s shooting needs to improve. And now that the Hoosiers have at least one open scholarship for the 2022-23 season, you can expect them to be active in their search for more perimeter scoring options.
