Indiana has focused in on the combination of length and perimeter shooting as a priority for its remaining openings in the class of 2023. Massachusetts based 6-foot-9 forward T.J. Power has made a strong impression this spring and IU offered a couple weeks ago.  Playing for Boston-based BABC on the Nike EYBL Circuit, Power averaged 18.3 points on 44.3 percent shooting from three, and added 8.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game during the second live period. The NBA Draft Combine began on Wednesday, but Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was noticeably absent from the event. Jackson-Davis is not participating in some and perhaps all aspects of the Combine, and there are multiple reports suggesting this comes after the IU star tested positive for COVID-19. Jackson-Davis was not included in the Wednesday participant measurements (height, wingspan, etc.) on the NBA’s website, and he was not listed as a participant in on-court testing activities. Andrej Stojakovic’s recruitment has turned into a battle royale of heavyweight contenders, and Indiana is in the ring. The emerging class of 2023 small forward has begun the process of sifting through his long list of suitors and now has a group of schools he plans to visit. According to Rivals national recruiting analyst Travis Graf, Stojakovic has a visit scheduled to Stanford on June 1, and he is eyeing stops at nine other schools in the coming months. While his IU basketball career was tragically cut short, Ray Pavy went on to a long a prosperous life. A frequent sophomore starter during the 1960-61 season alongside IU stars Walt Bellamy, Tom Bolyard and Jimmy Rayl, Pavy passed away overnight according to multiple reports including the Indianapolis Star and Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. One of the more intriguing prospects in the class of 2024 hails from the Indianapolis suburbs. 6-foot-7 small forward Kanon Catchings is a prospect full of potential and he has the attention of Indiana and other Midwest programs. As a sophomore at Brownsburg H.S. (Brownsburg, Ind.), Catchings averaged 11.6 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range according to his MaxPreps profile. At least one former IU basketball player will have a chance to win an NBA title next month. And another well known alumnus has a chance to return his franchise to the league’s biggest stage. The NBA Conference Finals are set, with Boston facing Miami in the East, and Dallas matching up with Golden State in the West. While name, image and likeness has created consternation and uncertainty about the state of college athletics on a national level, locally the new dynamic is creating interesting opportunities for both athletes and communities. One such example is the chance for college athletes to offer training and skills development programs for youth. Next up is Anthony Leal, who is training for his third year with IU basketball.
