That Micah Nori now has a prominent role on the Minnesota Timberwolves bench for the remainder of their 2024 NBA Playoffs run is a bit of an unlikely story. After a collision with Timberwolves guard Michael Conley last week led to head coach Chris Finch suffering a ruptured tendon, Nori has taken over many of the duties typically handled by the head coach — roaming the sideline, instructing the team, running huddles and making adjustments on the fly. But how Nori ever ended up as a lead assistant on an NBA staff is even more improbable. For the longest time,…
James Madison transfer return man and running back Solomon Vanhorse announced he has committed to IU while on a visit to Bloomington Saturday. Vanhorse had spent his entire career in Harrisonburg, joining the program in 2018. The 5-foot-8 and 183-pound Vanhorse was featured in the JMU spring game before he entered the portal. An Alpharetta, Ga. product, Vanhorse was supposed to finish his eligibility last season, but he appeared in just one game before suffering a season-ending injury and gaining a medical waiver from the NCAA. As a redshirt freshman in 2019, Vanhorse rushed for a career-high 382 yards and…
To the surprise of no one, former Indiana center Kel’el Ware received an invite to the 2024 NBA Draft Combine. The event will take place from May 12-19 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago. The NBA Draft has expanded to a two-night format that features the first round on Wednesday, June 26 and the second round on Thursday, June 27. The first round will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., home of the Brooklyn Nets. The second round will take place at ESPN’s Seaport District Studios in New York. Ware should be the third IU…
Luka Garza had a chance to play every home game at Indiana. Then IU head coach Tom Crean offered him a scholarship in 2016. Instead the Washington D.C. area product chose to play for Iowa, and he put together a masterful college career with the Hawkeyes, earning the Big Ten’s Player of the Year award back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. Still, Garza took note every time he came to Bloomington. The Iowa big man played at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall four times over his career with the Hawkeyes, and each time he walked away from those games impressed. Asked on…
Indiana needs to bolster its defensive line, and they’ll have a chance to do that this weekend. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, IU will host Alabama transfer DL Khurtiss Perry on a visit to Bloomington. Perry spent the last two years with the Crimson Tide. Over that time in Tuscaloosa, he redshirted after not appearing as a freshman, and he played in the 2023 season-opener against Middle Tennessee. The 6-foot-2 and 265-pound Perry has three years of eligibility remaining. He entered the transfer portal following Alabama’s spring practice. Perry played high school football at Pike Road H.S. (Montgomery, Ala.) where…
The recruitment of Clemson transfer guard Alex Hemenway is beginning to take shape. According to a report by the 247Sports Maryland site, Hemenway will visit Vanderbilt this weekend, and he’s also planning to see three Big Ten schools — IU, Rutgers and Maryland. These are the same three schools outlined in a report by the Rutgers 247Sports site over the weekend. Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports said Thursday afternoon on X the Indiana visit is expected to take place on May 14, while Maryland should happen on May 9. Hemenway said in the Maryland 247 report he’d like to make a…
As Indiana shows interest in transfer portal prospects we’ll provide a quick profile with our transfer portal names to know series. Of course we’ll cover prospects more if things progress beyond initial interest. Next up is Bellarmine forward Langdon Hatton. Indiana will finally have an alumni team in the The Basketball Tournament. Troy Williams, Juwan Morgan and Miller Kopp will be three of the players on the “Assembly Ball” IU team in the annual summer event. Christian Watford is expected to have a role as well. We’ll update this post as other team members are named. TBT squads typically have around 10 players. The Basketball Tournament (TBT) is a 64-team, open-application, single-elimination tournament played across the U.S. each summer since 2014. Now in its 11th year, TBT has paid out more than $13M in prize money to 10 champions over…
Indiana’s staff has proven they can significantly enhance the roster in the transfer portal. With 11 scholarship players currently slated to be on next year’s squad, the Hoosiers have gone from a team ranked outside the top-80 according to all of the analytical outlets, to a newly constructed group who most believe is a national top-20 squad. And that’s despite losing Kel’el Ware to the NBA Draft. But while things look promising, the Hoosiers now find themselves in what is perhaps the trickiest part of roster reconstruction via the portal. For every Luke Goode, who is willing to come to…
