Serbia outscored Spain 31-17 in the 4th quarter to complete a double-digit comeback and advance to the FIBA U20 Eurobasket semifinals.
Incoming IU freshman guard Aleksa Ristic had another solid showing for his home country, posting 12 points and 5 assists for Serbia. The 6-foot-3 Ristic was just 2 of 11 from the field including 2 of 7 from three, but he was a perfect 6 of 6 from the foul line and an overall plus-13 for the game.
Ristic starts for Serbia and has played significant minutes. He is up to 35 assists against 11 turnovers through five games at the international event. He’s averaging 13 points and 7 assists and has made six threes over the last three games. Serbia improved to 5-0 overall at the 2025 FIBA U20 Eurobasket.
Ristic and his Serbian teammates will face Italy on Saturday in the semifinals in Heraklion, Greece at Nea Alikarnassos Arena. There was a potential matchup between Ristic and incoming Purdue guard Omer Mayer, but Mayer’s Israel squad fell to Italy earlier in the day. So the Ristic/Mayer meeting will have to wait until 2026.
Serbia will conclude play on Sunday in either the final or the third-place game. Ristic will join the IU squad soon thereafter.
