Indiana picked up a commitment from University of Alabama transfer cornerback Brylan Lanier on Friday.

The 6-foot-1 and 170-pound Lanier was in Bloomington on an official visit last weekend, and announced his commitment to IU via his Twitter page.

Part of the class of 2021, Lanier was on scholarship at Georgia State before quickly reversing course and walking-on at Alabama last year.  He did not see the field for the Crimson Tide in 2021.

His transfer to Alabama was a return home.  Lanier is from Tuscaloosa, Ala., and he attended Paul W. Bryant H.S.

Lanier earned the Bear Bryant outstanding non-scholarship award for his performance in Alabama’s spring game last month.  You can see some footage of him from the spring below.

In the transfer portal Lanier had offers from Alabama A&M, Incarnate Word, Jacksonville State, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, and Tennessee-Martin.

The 6-foot-1 Lanier was a former 3-star recruit.  According to the 247Sports Composite he was ranked No. 1,142 overall and the No. 99 cornerback nationally in his class coming out of high school.  He signed with Georgia State in the early signing period (December 2020) over offers from Southern Miss, Toledo, Tulane, UAB and several FCS programs.
