A look at IU basketball 2024 recruiting targets in the national rankings as AAU action returns

The class of 2024 is now done with their high school junior seasons and about to embark on their final spring and summer of AAU basketball.

And while the transfer portal has stolen the spotlight, that means these almost high school seniors are nearing college decisions as well.

With that, let’s take a look at what the national rankings say about the main prospects IU has been involved with in the 2024 class.

The On3 rankings have become a new industry standard because they average the top four national outlets.  Here’s how the On3 Consensus averages IU’s main 2024 targets, along with a quick note on each player.

No. 2 – Dylan Harper, CG, 5-star:  Harper visited IU in November and the staff continues to try to overcome perceived favorites Duke and Rutgers.

No. 3 – Flory Bidunga, C, 5-star:  Bidunga has made multiple visits to IU.  The Hoosiers have a chance, but look out for Auburn, Cincinnati and a host of others.

No. 7 – Liam McNeeley, SF, 5-star:  IU has prioritized McNeeley for more than a year.  He visited Bloomington in September and the Hoosiers are in his top tier of school under consideration.

No. 8 – Boogie Fland, PG, 5-star:  Indiana has been involved for a while, but this one might be more in the long-shot category.

No. 9 – Asa Newell, PF, 5-star:  Newell has been on the IU campus multiple times and the Hoosiers are a strong contender, as is Georgia.

No. 10 – Bryson Tucker, SF, 5-star:  Indiana would need to get Tucker on campus for a visit to move the needle in what has been a quiet recruitment.

No. 15 – Derik Queen, C, 5-star:  There’s been talk of Maryland leading, but IU continues to push on the Montverde star, and they at least appear to be in the relatively small group he’s considering.

No. 21 – Tyler Betsey, SF, 4-star:  IU hopes to get one of the top shooters in the class on campus for a visit.

No. 30 – Somto Cyril, C, 4-star:  Cyril visited Bloomington in November, but this one has been quiet of late.

No. 40 – V.J. Edgecombe, SF, 4-star:  The newest 2024 IU offer, Edgecombe will likely end up a consensus 5-star.  He fits a need and IU will push for a visit.

No. 44 – Jaeden Mustaf, CG, 4-star:  Mustaf recently placed IU in his top-five.  If they can get him on campus this spring or summer it will be notable.

No. 50 – Rakease Passmore, SG, 4-star:  Passmore visited in November and IU looks like a legit contender for the Florida-based elite athlete.

No. 89 – Travis Perry, CG, 4-star:  Indiana is pushing hard for the Kentucky scoring phenom, an AAU teammate of Bidunga.

No. 94 – Jonathan Powell, SG, 4-star:  A high school teammate of signee Gabe Cupps, Powell is a solid perimeter shooter who IU continues to pursue.

No. 104 – Raleigh Burgess, PF, 4-star:  Burgess suffered a leg injury that took out much of his junior season and is impacting his spring too.  He’s expected back in May or June, and it will be interesting to see which schools make a push.

No. 121 – Caleb Williams, SF, 4-star:  Williams has also visited IU, and he’s another prospect that seems to have the Hoosiers in his top group.
