THREE QUICK REASONS WHY INDIANA
1. Second half turnovers. Indiana came into the game with just one turnover all season. But with the ball first to open the second half, the Hoosiers coughed it up on their first two possessions after the break. Davion Chandler fumbled after a reception that would have led to good field position on the first drive. And in OSU territory, Josh Hoover was sacked by an unblocked blitzer and fumbled on the second drive.
2. Missed field goals. Nico Radicic came into the game having made 36 of 39 field goals (92.3%) for his career. But he missed a relatively routine 32-yarder in the first half, and then missed a 55-yarder in the second. Indiana’s decision to attempt the latter kick was suspect. Radicic’s career long was 55 yards, and he has never been thought of as a long-range kicker. Ohio State scored their two touchdowns after IU’s missed field goals.
3. Running game stymied again. The Hoosiers struggled to move the ball on the ground for the second straight week. IU ran for just 73 yards on 29 carries — just 2.5 a tote. Even when adjusting for sack yards the Hoosiers had just 84 yards on the ground. Turbo Richard had 16 carries for 46 yards, while Lee Beebe, Jr. had nine carries for 24. Limited to the passing game, quarterback Hoover was only able to complete 20 of 40 passes, leading to an inefficient offensive day.
