Indiana football lost two major stars to injury during its 29-23 win over Northwestern on Friday evening.
But head coach Curt Cignetti delivered good news about both on Monday.
Running back Turbo Richard and linebacker Rolijah Hardy have a good chance to play Saturday evening when the Hoosiers return to the field at Rutgers.
“We got really good news on Turbo,” Cignetti said at his regular Monday press conference. “He’ll be day-to-day, and I’m optimistic he can play Saturday, as well as Rolijah Hardy.”
Richard was IU’s leading rusher on the season prior to his first half injury against Northwestern. He currently has 50 carries for 383 yards and four TDs on the season. The 5-foot-9 junior back appeared to suffer a sprained ankle while being tackled on the sideline.
Hardy co-leads the Hoosiers in tackles with 29, and he has an interception he returned for a TD. He was injured in the fourth quarter while attempting to tackle Northwestern quarterback Aidan Chiles. Hardy walked off the field under his own power but did not return to the game.
Both players will get the benefit of an added day of recovery after playing Northwestern on Friday.
