The calendar still says March, and while the IU baseball team continues to battle the snow and cold, today is opening day across Major League Baseball.  With a top 20 program that has been nationally relevant for nearly a decade, it should come as no surprise that the Hoosiers are represented on the rosters of MLB and AAA teams. Below are the players that are listed on those rosters for opening day along with the 2017 stats that they registered at the MLB level.  We’ve also listed some players to watch at the AAA affiliate level.  At the end of…

It is late March in Indiana, and save for the Pacers, basketball has largely gone dormant in this hoops crazed state. There is one other team still playing.  And just like water always finds its level, Hoosiers are finding their basketball.  As connoisseurs of the game, Hoosiers won’t just watch any basketball.  No, Hoosiers require something more, and the Indiana University women’s basketball team is delivering it in front of big crowds. On Wednesday night, IU defeated Texas Christian 71-58 to advance to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) championship game.  The Hoosiers will face Virginia Tech for the WNIT…

On the anniversary of a memorable 1987 Final Four win over UNLV, the Indiana University men’s basketball family has lost one of its champions that played in that game. Daryl Thomas passed away this morning due to an apparent heart attack.  Thomas was 52 years old.  A Chicago native, he was coaching high school basketball at Montini Catholic in Lombard, Illinois. The Indiana University men’s basketball program tweeted out this message as a tribute to Thomas: https://twitter.com/IndianaMBB/status/979062947728240641 Thomas was key player on the IU 1987 National Championship team.  In what was his senior year with the Hoosiers, he averaged 15.7…

Indiana University’s Archie Miller said recently that there are no days off as a Division 1 college basketball coach.  If you have followed Miller’s travels across the state of Indiana and beyond during the month of March, you know he isn’t kidding.  On what seems to be a daily basis, the leader of the IU program and his staff are seen somewhere watching someone play. And there is good reason for that — the Hoosiers have holes to fill, including in the upcoming class of 2018.  As we mentioned in our recap of the top off-season questions, there could be…

Romeo, Romeo, Romeo.  It is all anyone wants to talk about, and we are as guilty as anyone else.  But truth be told, even with one-and-done Romeo Langford, the 2018-19 Indiana Hoosiers probably won’t be an elite team without one-more-and-done Juwan Morgan. Morgan, who earned 2nd team All-Big Ten honors, is the only proven commodity at the forward position slated to be on next year’s team.  Sure, De’Ron Davis should be back from injury, but although the roster says he is a forward, he plays the game like a center.  Justin Smith is clearly an emerging star, but he isn’t…

Indiana University class of 2018 recruiting target Romeo Langford is in Atlanta for the McDonald’s All-American game and related events this week.  He sat down with Eric Bossi of Rivals to discuss his high school career, the McDonald’s game and to give his views on the Indiana, Kansas and Vanderbilt programs. It should come as no surprise, but one clear thing that Langford appears to be focused on when evaluating his final three options is how they can best prepare him for the NBA.  Langford will most likely play only one season at the college level before entering the NBA…

The dynamic duo reigns supreme once again. Two of the greatest players in the history of the Indiana University women’s basketball program apparently don’t want their college playing careers to come to an end.  Sparked by a dominant effort from seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill on Sunday afternoon, the Hoosiers knocked out UC Davis 81-66 and advanced to the Women’s NIT Final Four. Buss, who is IU’s all-time scoring leader and also leads the Hoosiers in a number of other career statistical categories, continued to add to her totals.  On the day she poured in 30 points to go with 7…

After an early end to a disappointing 2017-18 season, it is the biggest Indiana University men’s basketball story going.  With an announcement not expected until mid to late April, the anticipation and excitement regarding the college choice of New Albany, Indiana product and IU recruiting target Romeo Langford is reaching mass (Hoosier) hysteria. Langford is dealing with his own disappointment, as the New Albany Bulldogs lost in the semi-state round of the Indiana boys high school basketball tournament to Warren Central, ending their pursuit of a second title in 3 years.  For Langford, it was the end to an electrifying…

We couldn’t help but notice something strange when the Women’s NCAA Tournament Committee released its “last 8 under consideration” a couple weeks ago.  Despite sweeping the home and home series with Purdue, and having a higher RPI and strength of schedule than the Boilers, Indiana was left out of the “last 8” while Purdue was included. For two teams that clearly had similar NCAA tournament profiles, the season sweep should have been enough to put the Hoosiers ahead of Purdue.  Indiana controlled both games and was clearly the better of the two teams this year.  The NCAA oversight felt like…
