My how things have changed since we last previewed a game to be played in Bloomington. Three weeks ago, Indiana was coming off a tough road loss to Michigan State, and “here we go again” was the prevailing wisdom. Indiana University dedicated the George Taliaferro Plaza on Friday outside of the North End Zone facility at Memorial Stadium.  The school also announced that the Indiana football team will wear Taliaferro’s No. 44 on the left side of their helmets for Saturday night’s game against Northwestern. The new Plaza features a bronze statute of Taliaferro, one of the greatest players in the history of the IU program, and and a civil rights trailblazer. As a 42.8 percent career three-point shooter, it can’t be easy to watch. “If you can shoot, you can shoot,” Indiana head coach Archie Miller told us at the Big Ten’s media day in October. As a guard for North Carolina State from 1997 to 2002, Miller could shoot.  It was something that he was known for throughout his career in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Indiana head coach Archie Miller has followed through on his day one commitment to recruit the Hoosier state, and his “inside out” strategy has produced well thus far. With 57 receptions and 737 yards through eight games, junior wide receiver Whop Philyor is on a record setting pace for Indiana.  Philyor needs to average 4.6 receptions and 105.8 yards per game over IU’s last five contests to break James Hardy and Ernie Jones’ IU season records of 79 and 1,265, respectively. Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald knew that this day was possible for Indiana. He has seen program turnarounds as both a player and a coach for the Wildcats.
