In yet another way this 2019 Indiana football season has hearkened back to the program’s last era of sustained high level play. The Hoosiers are ranked in the Top 25 in this week’s Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll. It is the first time that IU has been ranked in either poll since 1994. With the Hoosiers on a bye and several teams in the No. 20 through 25 spots suffering losses this week, IU was able to slide into both polls and break the longest national ranking drought among Power Five schools. IU is ranked No. 24 in…
2-0 was the objective Indiana head coach Archie Miller said after the game, and in that regard Saturday’s 85-74 win over Portland State was a success. While the Hoosiers chalked up win number two, a feisty Viking squad allowed little opportunity for IU to walk away feeling a great deal of satisfaction. Seemingly every time Indiana started to pull away in this one, Portland State had an answer, led by big games from guards Matt Hauser and Holland “Boo Boo” Woods. Although it wasn’t pretty, ultimately the Hoosiers were able to finish off Portland State and meet the primary objective.…

When he committed to Indiana over a year ago, Armaan Franklin really wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to his role with the team as a true freshman. As a three star recruit hovering right around No. 150 in the national rankings, the prognosticators didn’t see an immediate impact. “Honestly didn’t know,” Franklin said on Friday when asked about his expectations for his freshman season when he first committed to IU back in September 2018. “I was just going to try to come in here and work my way into anything I could get.” While the Indianapolis product…

Indiana’s struggles shooting the ball from behind the three-point line over the last two seasons are well documented. After hitting just 32.2 and 31.2 percent of their attempts during the last two campaigns, Archie Miller’s Hoosiers came in at No. 307 and 311 nationally (out of 353 teams) during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, respectively. That’s why when the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a proposal over the summer to move back the men’s basketball three-point line to the international distance of 22 feet, 1 ¾ inches, many IU fans reacted with concern. Truth be told, on the offensive…
Indiana’s specialists have played a key role in the Hoosiers’ first winning season since 2007, and national recognition is now following for fifth year seniors Logan Justus and Haydon Whitehead. For the second straight year, IU kicker Justus is one of 20 finalists for the Lou Groza Award, and he was also nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy which is given to former walk-ons that go on to perform at a high level. Justus has made all 12 of his field goal attempts and 34 of 35 extra points for the 2019 season. He is the most accurate field goal kicker…
