Maintaining success has never been more difficult in college basketball. The combination of the transfer portal and the NBA Draft makes each offseason both eventful and potentially transformative for most programs. Now that the smoke has mostly cleared following the 2021-22 season, we’ll go team-by-team in the Big Ten to assess which programs are set up for success, and who might take a step back. ———— Next up is Maryland. The Terrapins are in transition after naming Kevin Willard as their new head coach in March. Willard recently coached Seton Hall to its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last…

The Indianapolis Colts signed offensive tackle and former IU football star Jason Spriggs, the team announced Friday. The move comes after the conclusion of the Colts minicamp this week. The 6-foot-6 and 301-pound Spriggs was a second-round pick (48th overall) with the Green Bay Packers during the 2016 NFL Draft where he spent four seasons. He also spent time with the Chicago Bears (2020) and Atlanta Falcons (2021). The Elkhart, Ind. product appeared in 15 games for the Falcons last season, making one start. He was on the field for 90 offensive and 54 special teams snaps. For his career,…
Will it be Connor Bazelak or Jack Tuttle under center on Sept. 2 when Indiana opens its 2022 season against Illinois? While many believe they know the answer, IU fans will likely have to wait until the week leading up to that game for certainty. While Bazelak has a more proven track record, Allen says he didn’t see enough this spring to a name a starter, and he sees benefits to keeping the competition open. “I didn’t name a starter for a reason coming out of spring football, and I wanted the guys to go into the summer with tremendous,…
Jordan Hulls has played his last professional basketball game and he has now officially turned his attention to his new role with IU basketball as team and recruitment coordinator. “Going back to my roots is a great opportunity for my family and I. We had an incredibly good time here in Europe – but our parents are not getting any younger and this opportunity to coach is unique. We couldn’t turn down such an offer,” Hulls said at a MHP Riesen team ceremony earlier this week after the conclusion of his overseas career. Hulls played at Indiana for former head coach Tom…
Indiana basketball has published updates to their official roster on iuhoosiers.com. The main update to the roster is the addition of the four class of 2022 freshmen. The new release provides the first look at the jersey numbers for the freshmen along with their heights and weights. We also took a look for updates to the heights and weights of the returning players, and the addition of any new walk-ons. DETAILS ON THE FRESHMEN Jalen Hood-Schifino will wear No. 1. The Pittsburgh/Charlotte product is listed at 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, making him one of, if not the tallest ever IU…
Xavier Booker’s spectacular rise momentarily met its match on Wednesday evening at Mt. Vernon H.S. in Fortville, Ind. The culprit? Jet lag. Fresh off earning most valuable player honors at the prestigious Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Booker was back in Indiana the next day to join his Junior Indiana All-Star teammates for their annual game against the Senior All-Stars. But his four points on 1-of-5 shooting with three turnovers against the seniors bore little resemblance to the player who has gone from sophomore reserve to one of the top class of 2023 players in the country.…

The Hawkeyes have won 20 or more games for four straight seasons under head coach Fran McCaffery, and he delivered a surprising 26-10 record and Big Ten Tournament title in…
A.J. Barner mostly watched as Peyton Hendershot rewrote the IU record books. A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Hendershot finished his career as the Hoosiers tight ends receptions (136) and yardage (1,479) leader. Tom Allen watched all of that production from Hendershot, who is now with the Dallas Cowboys, as well. And he believe his understudy has a chance to be even better. “A.J. Barner has a chance to be the best tight end we’ve ever had at Indiana,” Allen said in May at an alumni event. “That’s my prediction.” Barner is preparing for his third season at Indiana out of…

The Fighting Illini have gone 47-17 overall over the last two seasons and 31-9 in the Big Ten during that span. But perhaps no one has lost more production than…
Class of 2023 wing Jamie Kaiser’s recruitment is on the fast track, and Indiana is still clearly in the picture. On Sunday Kaiser said he had narrowed his list of potential schools to nine. But he also said he would like to finalize his choice by the end of June, meaning the Burke, Va. product likely has a smaller group that he is considering at this point. All signs point to Indiana being on that short list. Kaiser confirmed with The Daily Hoosier on Tuesday he is working on setting up an official visit to Indiana this month. He did…
