There were only tears and forced smiles when Indiana went through Senior Day ceremonies a month ago. Given another chance to play a final home game on Monday night, the scene was much different for IU veterans Aleksa Gulbe, Ali Patberg, Nicole Cardano-Hillary and Grace Waggoner. The tears were joyous, they couldn’t wipe the smiles from their faces, and the scene — it was festive to put it mildly — after Indiana overcame Princeton 56-55 to advance to the Sweet 16. Patberg couldn’t hold back her emotions after Indiana lost 96-91 to Iowa on Feb. 19. The program’s traditional Senior…

Year one of the Mike Woodson era is in the books, and it was a season replete with highs and lows. Far too long losing streaks to Purdue, Michigan and Illinois were snapped, while another February funk nearly ruined a once promising campaign. The suspension of five players for a league game was nearly what kept IU out of the NCAA Tournament, before an impressive Big Ten Tournament saved the season. If job one was to get Indiana back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016, mark Woodson’s start to his tenure as a success. But 14…

We’ve entered transfer portal season for Indiana, and we’ll be profiling players the IU staff shows interest during what should be a eventful spring. One of the first names to pop on the radar will be familiar to many Indiana fans. Payton Sparks is a left-handed post player from Winchester, Indiana, and someone the previous IU staff had an eye on. Coming out of high school, the 6-foot-9, 240 pounder Sparks was someone many thought had a high ceiling who could blossom at the college level. And that appears to be the path he is on. As a freshman at…

Three seasons at Indiana, three decisions. According to IU star forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, his most recent stay-or-go decision is still up in the air. After putting the Hoosiers on his back and carrying them to the NCAA Tournament, Jackson-Davis once again enters the offseason with a future to contemplate. After his 2019-20 freshman campaign, the decision seemed fairly straightforward. Following his sophomore season Jackson-Davis surprised many with his decision to return and play for new head coach Mike Woodson. In the immediate aftermath of a humbling 82-53 loss to St. Mary’s that ended his junior year, Jackson-Davis wasn’t ready to…
There is no way around it — an 82-53 blowout loss to St. Mary’s stings. But with a night to sleep on it, it is time for reflection, and a look at the big picture. A reasonable goal for Mike Woodson’s first season at Indiana was to end the program’s NCAA Tournament drought that extended back to the 2016 season. While it was the rollercoaster ride you’d expect for a 21-14 team that made it to the First Four, Woodson’s crew found a way to get that done. “It was a great run for our ball club this season getting…
