Running back Davion Ervin-Poindexter and linebacker Ty Wise in the transfer portal

Two more hit the transfer portal on Monday as walk-on running back Davion Ervin-Poindexter and linebacker Ty Wise are looking for opportunities elsewhere in 2022.

Ervin-Poindexter carried the ball 44 times for 226 yards and a touchdown and added four catches for 26 yards in a role that expanded as the season progressed as IU dealt with injuries and transfers at the running back position.

The Merrillville, Ind. product will likely get a chance to prove himself as an every day starting running back at a Group of Five or FCS program.

The 5-foot-11 and 190 pound Ervin-Poindexter was nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding football player who began his career as a walk-on.  He was also named IU’s Chris Beaty Outstanding Walk-On Player of the Year following the 2020 season.

The 6-foot-2 and 226 pound Wise has a bit of an in between linebacker and safety frame and he spent time at IU’s hybrid husky position for those two roles as well as playing some at linebacker.  He was a 3-star recruit and the No. 93 outside linebacker in the 2019 class according to the 247Sports Composite.

A Carmel, Ind. product, Wise appeared in all 12 games in 2021, mostly on special teams, and he recorded three tackles. He redshirted the 2020 season and made his collegiate debut and lone appearance in the Outback Bowl vs. Ole Miss.
