IU women’s basketball hosts Charlotte on Saturday in NCAA Tournament first round

No. 3 seed Indiana will open NCAA Tournament action on Saturday afternoon when they face No. 14 Charlotte in the first round at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

    INDIANA (22-8) VS. CHARLOTTE (22-9)

    Saturday, March 19, 2022 • 1:30 p.m. Eastern
Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall • Bloomington, Ind.

    Broadcast: ESPN2 (stream)

Charlotte arrives as the 2022 Conference USA regular season and tournament champions with a 22-9 overall record and 15-3 mark in conference play.

Fifth year guard Octavia Jett-Wilson leads the way for the 49ers with 19.1 points per game. Fifth year forward Keke McKinney leads on the glass with 8.1 boards per game while redshirt senior guard Mikayla Boykin also averages double figures with 13.3 points per game. They are No. 90 in the NET rankings and went 9-4 away from home.

Indiana hasn’t played since a loss in the Big Ten Tournament final to Iowa on March 6, which has allowed center Mackenzie Holmes to continue to build stamina after missing time due to a midseason knee procedure.

“It’s kind of nice to have a little bit of a break and hit the reset button,” head coach Teri Moren said on Friday.

The Hoosiers are making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and third-consecutive. IU holds a 6-7 record all-time and they are most recently coming off an Elite Eight appearance in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

This will be the first time the women’s tournament will hold first and second round games inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

The winner of Indiana vs. Charlotte will face off against the winner of No. 6 seed Kentucky and No. 11 seed Princeton on Monday.
