Indiana linebacker Aiden Fisher is the latest Hoosier to be named to a preseason watch list.
The 6-foot-1 and 233-pound Fisher is on the preseason Butkus Award watch list. That honor goes to the nation’s best linebacker at the end of each season.
The 40th annual collegiate Butkus Awar Preseason Watch List features 51 linebackers as a nod to the storied “51” pro jersey worn by the award’s namesake, the late Dick Butkus. His tenacious leadership from the middle linebacker position earned him acclaim by NFL Films as the greatest defensive player in football history. Candidates for the collegiate Butkus Award represent 44 colleges and universities from across the country.
With Curt Cignetti at James Madison, Fisher was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team after leading the Dukes in total tackles (91) and an interception in 2023. Fisher had six tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, five QB hits and a blocked kick. He has two more years of eligibility.
For his career, the Fredericksburg, Va. product has appeared in 23 career games with 11 starts over two seasons at James Madison (2022-23). He owns 113 career tackles with 6.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, one interception, eight pass breakups and one blocked kick.
