Indiana and the Boilermakers tip-off at 1:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

    ———————————————————————–

    FINAL: Indiana 73, Purdue 58

    Image

    SECOND HALF

Indiana leads 64-51 with 3:40 left to play.

    • Looking like the Hoosiers could take it. They were on a near five-minute field goal drought after a Ballo bucket and have had a few careless fouls, but have fought the whole way. Unbelievable effort.
    • Trey Kaufmann-Renn has fouled out for Purdue. Finished with just nine points on 4-11 shooting. Caleb Furst also has four.

Hoosiers 57-44 at the under-8. 7:41 left to play.

    • It’s been more back and forth in the latter stages of the second half, but Indiana has still played some hounding defense. Purdue is still just 3-14 from the field in this half.
    • Both teams are in the bonus early, with Indiana picking up their seventh heading into the timeout and Purdue the possession before. Could be a free throw battle down the stretch.

IU has Purdue rattled. 53-40 with 11:56 left to play.

    • Hoosiers are on a 21-1 run over 5 minutes, and 14-0 run over the last 2:43. The Boilermakers are 1-8 from the field and have six turnovers in the half.
    • Indiana just put up on the video board that Malik Reneau has surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career. He leads all scoring today with 15.

What an effort from the Hoosiers out of half. 46-40 with 13:54 left to play.

    • Indiana on a 14-1 run over the past three minutes, and they’ve revitalized the crowd here inside of Assembly Hall.

Purdue’s lead is cut to just two. 39-37 with 15:39 left to play.

    • Anthony Leal’s defense is always a pleasure to watch. Switched on to Trey Kaufman-Renn, and forced a block on the drive and it hits off Kaufman-Renn. Countless plays like that throughout the season that has kept Indiana in games like these.
    • Hoosiers have gotten some really good looks on offense. They’ve started the half 5-7 from the field, and both Goode and Rice have knocked down a three.

Quick 7-0 run out of halftime that forces a Purdue timeout. 37-32 with 18:41.

    • Back-to-back turnovers by Braden Smith gives Indiana two transition buckets. Seen this stuff before though, they have to find a way to maintain it.

    HALFTIME: Purdue 37, Indiana 25

    FIRST HALF

Boilermakers lead 31-23 with 3:05 left in the first.

    • Indiana finally breaks their drought with a Reneau layup, but Purdue still maintains a 15-2 run. They have killed the energy in the building after a great start from IU.
    • Reneau has been productive in this game so far. He has eight points on 4-4 shooting from the field, and has added five rebounds. Only played eight minutes in the two team’s last matchup.

Purdue leads 28-21 with 4:46 in the half.

    • As you can probably tell by the last update, Purdue is on a 12-0 run over the pst four minutes. Indiana hasn’t scored in the past 4:21.

Indiana leads 21-18 with 7:53 left in the half.

    • Rough showing from beyond the arc so far for Indiana. 1-7 so far with Goode the only make. Have had some decent looks, but Purdue’s defense has been right there.
    • Looks like IU is sending both Reneau and Ballo at Trey Kaufman-Renn on the low block, which is leaving players open on the wing. Boilermakers haven’t taken advantage yet, but have had some really solid looks.

Hoosiers lead 19-13 with 11:19 left in the first half.

    • Ballo has done a nice job coming off the bench. A couple of buckets and a block to his name in just four minutes. He’s caused issues for both Kaufman-Renn and Purdue backup Will Berg.
    • Indiana looked really solid overall offensively in the last sequence. They’re eight of their last ten from the field and haven’t missed their last three. Shooting 60% from the field total.

Tied up at six heading into the first media timeout. 15:39 left in the half.

    • Both teams still trying to find their footing. Both are 3-7 from the field so far.
    • Interestingly enough, Indiana comes out in man, with Goode guarding Furst. About a three-inch size advantage for Furst, but he has been underutilized this season for Purdue. Ballo and Mgbako look to be checking in soon for the Hoosiers.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • There is a clean injury report for both teams, other than Indiana’s typical Newton and Cupps.
    • Have to imagine Indiana’s going to play inside heavily today. Already pointed out Purdue’s struggles from the inside as of late, as well as their block rate on our Game Day Essentials.
    • Another change to Indiana’s starting lineup. This time it’s Rice, Leal, Galloway, Goode and Reneau.
    • I won’t lie, the change is a bit confusing to me. Purdue is starting both Caleb Furst and Trey Kaufman-Renn. Tells me they’re probably coming out with the zone.
