    ———————————————————————–

    FINAL: Michigan 70, Indiana 67

    Image

    SECOND HALF

Indiana trails 66-63 with 26.4 left to play.

    • Whew. Mackenzie Mgbako missed a three, but luckily Woodson called a timeout just before the shot was attempted. Indiana across half court with a chance to tie.

All tied up at 59 with 3:49 left in the game.

    • What an effort by Indiana across the board in the second half. They’ve outscored Michigan 32-16 so far, and haven’t allowed a 3-pointer the entire half. The Wolverines are shooting 30% from the field in the half.
    • Gotta give my props to Anthony Leal for this game. He’s played the entire second half for the Hoosiers and has caused so much panic for Michigan.

IU cuts the lead to 59-57 with 4:53.

    • A few really good sets on the offense end for Indiana. Anthony Leal with a bucket on one of them. Nine points for him on the night. Dusty May will call timeout.

Michigan up 55-52 with 8:22 left on the clock.

    • Hoosiers have chipped away throughout the second half, and now are the closest they’ve been since early in the first half. Michigan is on a four-minute field goal drought.
    • Anthony Leal has been matched up on Danny Wolf a few times and has almost forced a few turnovers. Danny Wolf stands at 7-foot, and I believe Leal is listed at 6-foot-5.

IU cutting into the lead once again. 53-46 Wolverines with 11:30 left.

    • The crowd is getting more into it as the second half goes on, but that’s not without some nice play from the Hoosiers. Anthony Leal forced at least two turnovers in that sequence, and Indiana is getting to the foul line.
    • Mackenzie Mgbako has looked motivated in this half. Hasn’t done anything crazy on offense, but has hauled in eight rebounds total, with two coming from the offensive glass. Converted two free throws off of one of the second chances.

Michigan leads 49-35 with 15:44 left to play.

    • Decent start for Indiana. They’re 3-4 from the field so far and have forced a few stops on defense.
    • Haven’t really talked about Tre Donaldson yet, who leads all scorers with 16. Anthony Leal has had the most success matchup-wise on him today. Still, his quickness has given Indiana some issues.

    HALFTIME: Michigan 43, Indiana 27

    FIRST HALF

Michigan leads 37-25 with 3:37 in the half.

    • Solid game for Reneau so far today. He leads Indiana with eight points on 4-5 shooting. Has had some trouble going up against Wolf and has passed out a few times, but has looked good when he has positioning.
    • Still, IU is shooting 39% from the field as a team. They’ve shot 2-for-6 on 3-pointers so far on the day.

Michigan back in front 29-19 with 7:41 left in the half.

    • Indiana doesn’t have anything consistent to go to on offense. 36% from the field so far in the half. Michigan has played some really nice defense.
    • The Wolverines themselves are looking solid on the offensive side as well. They’re at 63% from the field so far, and have the same clip from 3-point range so far. The combo of Goldin and Wolf has 11 points.

Nice response for Indiana, and they cut the lead to 16-14. UM up with 11:44 left.

    • Hoosiers on a 9-0 run in the last two and a half minutes. Reneau got inside a few times on the taller Goldin and converted on some tough finishes. They’ve also held Michigan scoreless in the past three minutes.
    • The crowd got into it there in the last sequence. The student section is full up to the main level; I don’t have a vantage point on the balcony.

Michigan up 14-5 through the first media timeout. 15:07 left on the clock.

    • Definitely an interesting atmosphere in Assembly Hall right now. It’s hard to describe, but Indiana’s slow start hasn’t helped anything. Woodson got a decent ovation during introductions as well, but some boos were mixed in.
    • Michigan’s defense has looked really solid across the board. Apart from an Anthony Leal open three, every shot attempt by the Hoosiers has been contested pretty well. IU is 2-of-9 so far.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • Jakai Newton and Gabe Cupps remain OUT for Indiana—otherwise, a clean injury report for the Hoosiers.
    • No injury concerns for Michigan. Their report is clean.
    • I didn’t get the chance to make my prediction on our game day essentials, so I’ll log it here. To me, it’s a toss-up between Indiana rallying and stealing a win or them just coming up short. Going to depend on how the crowd responds to the recent news and if they bring enough injury. I’ll go ahead and put Michigan 79 – Indiana 72.
    • Starting five for Indiana: Rice, Leal, Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo
