Indiana and the Buckeyes tip-off at Noon ET on CBS.

    ———————————————————————–

    FINAL: Maryland 79 – Indiana 78

    Image

    SECOND HALF

Rodney Rice knocks down the three. Maryland up 79-78 with 5.6 seconds left.

    Indiana 78 – Maryland 76 with 18 seconds left.

    • Huge bucket once again by Anthony Leal, who was nowhere near the play until the very last second. He lays it up and knocks down the and-1 free throw.
    • Maryland gets a bucket, then fouls Trey Galloway on Indiana’s end. Galloway can’t convert from the line.

Indiana takes a 73-70 lead with 3:35 left in the game.

    • Anthony Leal with some key plays on the defensive end to give Indiana the lead. Forces a turnover, scores a fast break layup, then grabs a 50/50 rebound against Julian Reese.
    • Amazing second half from Myles Rice. 14 points and an assist in the half alone, and just hit a go-ahead three to put Indiana on top.

Good response from the Hoosiers as they cut the lead to 64-61.

    • Not much defense being played in this one. Indiana is seven of their last eight field goal attempts, and Maryland has seven for their last nine.
    • Four of Maryland’s starters are in double figures, with Derik Queen the only one not reaching the mark. He has seven.

Terps pulling away, they lead 57-48 with 11:07 left.

    • Maryland hasn’t missed their last five, and two of those were easy layups off of turnovers. Some stray boos coming from Assembly Hall.
    • Still, Mackenzie Mgbako has looked impressive in this game. 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting, and has played some nice defense to compliment it.

Maryland up 45-41 with 15:01 left to play.

    • Messy first half so far for the Hoosiers, but they’ve kept themselves in a decent spot. They’ve started the second half two of nine from the field.
    • Hoosiers haven’t been able to convert much beyond the arc so far in this one. 3-for-12 on the day on 3s.

Quick timeout for Woodson as Indiana trails 42-37 with 18:34.

    • Two quick buckets on the inside for the Terps were enough to force a timeout from Woodson. Hoosiers looked lost on both occasions.

    HALFTIME: Maryland 38, Indiana 37

    FIRST HALF

Maryland up 32-30 with 3:44 left.

    • Indiana has done well defensively, holding Maryland to two of their last 10 from the field. Offensively, the Hoosiers are shooting 50% from the field.
    • The big story has been on the glass. Maryland is outrebounding the Hoosiers 20-13, and have hauled in 10 offensive rebounds.

Maryland takes a 25-21 lead with 7:35 in the half.

    • Hoosiers on a scoring drought, as they haven’t made a field goal in the last four minutes.
    • Reneau also had to go to the bench with two fouls. He’s been going back and forth with both Queen and Reese on the glass.
    • Ja’Kobi Gillespie leads all scorers with eight. Maryland has been forced out of the paint on some of their possessions, but they haven’t lost a step. Gillespie came into the game averaging 14 points.

Hoosiers up 19-16 with 11:33 left to play.

    • Indiana with a few nice defensive possessions in the last few minutes, and has capitalized on their end. 6-0 run in favor of IU.
    • Mgabko leads all scorers with seven and has three rebounds to go with it. He has shown a nice motor so far in the first half.

Indiana leads 11-10 through the first media timeout. 15:04 left in the half.

    • Nice start for the Hoosiers offensively. Mgbako had a few buckets early, and Reneau looked solid, with Queen matching up against him.
    • Maryland playing a little bit more on the perimeter than I expected. Still, Queen and Reese each have two points in the early stages.
    • Curt Cignetti is on the mic into the timeout.

    PREGAME NOTES

    • Gabe Cupps and Jakai Newton are OUT for Indiana. Other than that, a clean injury report for the Hoosiers.
    • Indiana has to find a way to contain Julian Reese and Derik Queen to have a chance today. Don’t be surprised if Ballo and Reneau are in lineups together. Just as I am typing this, Woodson confirmed Reneau will be back in the starting lineup on his pregame radio spot.
    • Another new starting lineup combination: Rice, Leal, Mgbako, Reneau and Ballo.
