Indiana and SIU Edwardsville tip-off at 8:00 p.m. ET in BTN

    ———————————————————————–

FINAL: Indiana 80, SIU Edwardsville 61

    SECOND HALF

Final media timeout and Indiana leads 74-57.

    • Overall, hasn’t been the worst game Indiana has had offensively, but they’ve definitely seen better days. 27-53 from the field overall, and 6-16 from three. Mgbako is 4-5 from beyond the arc.
    • 15 turnovers definitely noticed for Indiana offensively, though. A lot of them just silly mistakes.

    Under-8 timeout, Hoosiers up 65-48.

    • Indiana slowly pulling away with a few good possessions on both sides of the ball. Carlyle hasn’t scored tonight but has been a really good perimeter defender so far.
    • Galloway getting some more minutes in this half and just knocked down a three. Has to be the best sixth-man you could have, and probably is one of the better ones in the Big Ten.

Cougars with a timeout, Indiana up 60-46.

    • Mgbako has been the only player that’s had a complete, impressive performance on Indiana’s side tonight. He’s up to 26 points and seven rebounds. 11-14 from the field as well.

Indiana leads 55-44 with 11:49 left.

    • SIUE just got back-to-back buckets after Indiana possessions because Indiana didn’t get back on defense. It makes sense to come out slow in your first regular season game, but it seems like the basic basketball intangibles are sometimes absent on Indiana’s side.
    • Nevertheless, Rice has found a groove in the second half and is up to 11 points. Reneau with 11 as well, and Mgbako leads all scoring with 21.

First media timeout, and Indiana leads 44-34.

    • Hoosiers are just not getting looks on the offensive side of things. Not a ton of movement, a lot of isolation ball and one-on-one situations.
    • SIUE not having a great time on offense either, however. One of their last seven from the field.

    HALFTIME

    Indiana 42, SIU Edwardsville 30

    FIRST HALF

Hoosiers on a 11-0 run and they lead 38-27 with a minute left.

Media timeout hits, and Indiana is up 32-27 with 4 minutes in the half.

    • All five of Indiana’s point in that short span came from Mgbako. A three on offensive, then a steal on the other end leading to a layup, plus the foul. Mgbako up to 18 on the night.

4:47 left in the first half, and it’s tied up at 27.

    • Indiana is just not playing a good brand of basketball right now. More careless turnovers and bad defense. Student section with some boos heading into an Indiana timeout.

7:52 left in the first half, and Indiana leads 24-20.

    • A few very ugly sequences from Indiana on offense. They have three turnovers in the last 1:30.
    • SIUE is also starting to get second chances on offense. They lead the offensive glass battle 8-5.

Media timeout, and the Hoosiers are up 22-13 with 11:25 in the half.

    • Been impressed with Indiana’s defense so far, but SIUE have gotten their hands on a few offensive rebounds. Indiana going small right now, with Hatton as the primary big.
    • Hoosiers are 1-4 from beyond the arc so far. Mgbako has the lone make.

Indiana leads 19-9 with 12:42 left in the half

    • Mgbako has been on fire. He’s 6-7 from the field, and up to 13 points so far.
    • Galloway the first off the bench, with Goode and Tucker following shortly after.

SIU Edwardsville with a timeout at 14:09 left in the first half.

At the first media timeout, Indiana leads 6-3 with 15:49 in the first half.

    • All of Indiana’s points have been second chance points. The Hoosiers have four offensive rebounds already.
    • Reneau, Ballo, and Mgbako each have two points, but it could be a lot more for Indiana. They’re 3-10 from the field so far.

    PREGAME NOTES

Starters for Indiana: Rice, Carlyle, Mgbako, Reneau, Ballo

As listed on the Big Ten availibility report, Anthony Leal will sit out tonight’s contest.

Everyone else on the roster, including Kanaan Carlyle, is expected to play. Carlyle sat out Indiana’s last exhibition against Marian.

A bit of a reunion of sorts for some of the Cougars from SIU Edwardsville. Their head coach Brian Barone was a video coordinator under Tom Crean at Indiana for a season. Kyle Thomas, a forward for the team, is the son of 1987 National Champion Daryl Thomas.
