Our names to know series is a quick snapshot of new/young prospects on Indiana’s radar.

(Update:  Based on multiple reports and confirmed by his school, Indiana offered Amzil on Nov. 11.)

Indiana is taking a look at the international route for an alternative in the class of 2021.

Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers was the first to report IU showing interest in 6-foot-10 forward Mustapha Amzil.

Hailing from Finland, Amzil recently enrolled in school in the U.S. and has seen a wave of offers and interest since his arrival.

Amzil first garnered significant attention when he played for the Finland U18 team in the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championship.  There Amzil averaged 12.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest.

After a recent move, Amzil enrolled at First Love Christian Academy in Washington, Penn., not far from Archie Miller’s native Pittsburgh.

Amzil calls himself a wing but on film projects more as a modern stretch-four in the U.S. college game.  His greatest strength is an impressive looking shot, and he appears willing to attack of the bounce rather than settle for jump shots.  Amzil will need to develop more skills and athleticism, and it would be interesting to see how he would matchup defensively.  But he could make an immediate impact as a shot-maker as the rest of his game matures.

Amzil received six offers in his first week in the U.S. and the list continues to grow.

DePaul, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, N.C. State, Maryland, St. Johns, Boston College, Oklahoma State, Dayton, and Pittsburgh have all offered Amzil to this point, with several other top programs reportedly showing interest.

Indiana is deep into the recruitments of forwards Trey Kaufman and Mason Miller in the class of 2021.  Both are expected to announce commitments in the fall.  How hard the Hoosiers push for Amzil might depend on whether they miss on one or both of Kaufman and Miller, and whether Amzil stays on the board into the spring.

Amzil is No. 20 in the first video and No. 10 in the second.
