With practice underway, the recruiting calendar remains hectic for Archie Miller and his coaching staff.

Yesterday news broke that 2020 forward Dawson Garcia will take an official visit to IU Oct. 25-27.

Today, Somerset, New Jersey based prospect Trey Patterson announced that he will take an official visit to Indiana this weekend.

Interestingly, Patterson attends Rutgers Preparatory School in New Jersey.  IU football hosts New Jersey based Rutgers University this weekend for homecoming.

The 6-foot-8, 4-star rated Patterson averaged 19 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Rutgers Prep.

Playing up a year on the UAA Circuit, Patteson averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest in games during the spring and summer while shooting 49% overall and 36% from behind the three point line.

On the fringes of 5-star status, Patterson is the No. 34 ranked player nationally in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite.  He is rated as the No. 2 player in New Jersey according to that same service.

Eric Watkins of recruiting service 247Sports gave this assessment of Patterson over the summer:

“Patterson is ranked as high as he is nationally because of his versatility and college-ready basketball body. He has good strength at this stage and the frame to add more. Patterson is a good ball-handler and passer who generally makes the correct decision with the ball. He can knock down the three-point shot or use his size and handle to get into the lane for mid-range jumpers or lay-ups at the rim. He is communicative with teammates, contributes on the glass, and willingly defends.”

The IU coaching staff has been in contact with Patterson for well over a year, and Indiana has prioritized him earlier this summer, reportedly reaching out on the first day that contact was allowed on June 15.  IU also watched Patterson a couple weeks ago during the fall live period.

According to Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers, this is Patterson’s first of five allotted junior year official visits.
