The quest for nine continues!  The Indiana Hoosiers men’s soccer team defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels 1-0 on Friday evening in Philadelphia to advance to the National Championship match against the two-time defending national champion Stanford Cardinal.  The final between the 2nd seeded Hoosiers (18-0-6) and the 9th seeded Cardinal (18-2-2) will be at 1:00 on Sunday and it will be televised on ESPN2.

You can see the NCAA tournament bracket here.

The first half was a largely uneventful, with both clubs appearing to feel each other out.  Indiana broke through early in the second half (50:00) as IU All-American Andrew Gutman scored the match’s lone goal on a one-timer off a beautifully placed corner kick to back post by Trevor Swartz.

Indiana’s stout defense achieved an NCAA record tying 18th shutout of the season.
