Hoosiers in the NFL — 2018 Stats Through September

Nine former Indiana University football players have registered at least one snap during the 2018 NFL season through September.  Below is a summary of their performance during the season through four weeks.

    TEVIN COLEMAN, RB, ATLANTA FALCONS

    Att – 54
    Yards – 210
    YPC – 3.9
    TD – 1
    Rec – 10
    Rec Yards – 84
    TD – 1

Notes:  Coleman has started the last three games for Atlanta and he has seen an expanded role to due an injury to Devonta Freeman.  Coleman recorded a 107 yard game in week two against Carolina and is currently 14th in the NFL in rushing yards.

    CHRIS COVINGTON, LB, DALLAS COWBOYS

Covington saw his first action of his NFL career with five snaps on special teams in week four against Detroit.

DAN FEENEY, G, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

    Games/Started – 4/4

Notes:  Feeney has become a fixture on the Charger offensive line, starting in every game this year.

    JORDAN HOWARD, RB, CHICAGO BEARS

    Att – 64
    Yards – 203
    Avg – 3.2
    TD – 1
    Rec – 10
    Rec Yards – 78

Notes:  Howard has started every game thus far for a Bears team that is on the rise.  Howard’s yards per carry are well under his 4.5 career average.  With Mitch Tribusky starting to play well at quarterback, that could free up Howard more for the remainder of the season.  Howard is 16th in the NFL in rushing yards.

    CODY LATIMER, WR, DENVER BRONCOS

    Games/Started – 3/0
    Rec – 3
    Yards – 56

    Kickoff returns:  4 returns/89 yards

Notes:  Latimer is seeing action both as a receiver and a kickoff returner in an expanded 2018 role with the Giants.

RODGER SAFFOLD, OT, LOS ANGELES RAMS

    Games/Started – 4/4

Notes:  Saffold is now 30 years old and in his ninth season in the league.  Brian Baldinger recently tweeted that Saffold blocks downfield better than anyone in the NFL.  You can see his full range of abilities here.

So good to see Rodger Saffold healthy these last couple years. Getting a hold of Kendricks in pass pro + springing Gurley in space. Career start 99 was another impressive one. This has to be one of is not the most underrated left sides in the NFL: pic.twitter.com/aVGAcwxW9W

JASON SPRIGGS, OT, GREEN BAY PACKERS

    Games/Started – 4/0

Notes:  Spriggs has returned from a dislocated kneecap that ended his 2017 season.  He has seen action in every game thus far for Green Bay.

    NATE SUDFELD, QB, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

    Photo of Nate Sudfeld

Notes:  As expected, Sudfeld hasn’t seen the field for the Eagles, buried on the depth chart behind Carson Wentz and Nick Foles.  There is probably not a better 3rd string quarterback in the league, and Sudfeld needs to find a new home.  The California native saw extensive preseason action, completing 43 of 74 passes for 524 yards to go with 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

    IAN THOMAS, TE, CAROLINA PANTHERS

    Photo of Ian Thomas

    Games/Started – 3/2
    Rec – 7
    Yards – 34
    TD – 0

Notes:  Thomas as been thrust into a starting role in his rookie season after an injury to tight end Greg Olsen.  With Olsen out for up to another month, Thomas has a huge opportunity in front of him.

    Practice Squad Players:

    • Michael Hunter, Buffalo
    • Robert McCray, Kansas City
    • Simmie Cobbs, Washington
