Former IU star D.J. White joined A.J. Guyton on the House of Hoosier Podcast this week.
Tuscaloosa, Alabama native White started in all 29 games he played in during his freshman season, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game during the 2004-05 season. His productivity earned him Big Ten freshman of the year honors. After an injury plagued sophomore season there was concern that White would transfer. Mike Davis resigned in 2006 and White indicated that he was likely to look elsewhere.
Fortunately for Indiana, White decided to stay and play for new head coach Kelvin Sampson. He had two more highly productive seasons. White had a monster 2007-08 senior year, averaging 17.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, while shooting better than 60% from the field. He was the first IU player to average a double-double since Alan Henderson in 1994. White was voted the Big Ten’s Player of the Year by both the coaches and the media in 2008. He was also named 2nd team All-American by multiple outlets.
