    Big Ten Media Day — Indiana Related News and Notes

    Indiana head coach Tom Allen gave a press conference and did a live interview on the Big Ten Network today at the annual Big Ten Media Day event.

    Also participating at the event were IU players Jacob Robinson, Jonathan Crawford, Wes Martin and Luke Timian.

    Below is our recap of the IU related news and notes from the day.

    Key notes from Tom Allen’s meeting with the press pool:

    • Allen indicated that the vision of the program has not changed.  “I want the Hoosiers to break through.”
    • Indiana will wear a special decal during the 2018 season in honor of former head coach Bill Mallory, who passed away in May.
    • Georgia Tech transfer T.D. Roof will be eligible for the 2018 season.  He will add much needed depth at the linebacker position.
    • The quarterback position is still an open competition.  No starter has been named at this time.
    • Coach Allen believes that depth and fatigue were the key factors that kept the team from winning several close games last year.
    • Allen was asked about the competitive balance in the Big Ten football divisions.  He did not acknowledge that there was an issue, indicating that IU “plays on both sides and it’s tough.”

    Roster Updated

    The 2018 Indiana football roster has been updated on the IU website.  You can see it here.

    • New quarterback Brandon Dawkins will wear No. 13.
    • Freshman running back Ronnie Walker, Jr. will wear No. 23.
    • DB Bryant Fitzgerald, who had to sit out last season, will wear No. 31.
    • Newly eligible LB T.D. Roof will wear No. 45.
    • Top defensive recruit and DL Jonathan King will wear No. 18.
    • Mike Miller of the Herald Times also tweeted out several other roster notes:
      • Linebacker Kiante Walton has a medical issue and is no longer on the roster.
      • CB LaDamian Hunt will also not be on the roster for personal reasons.
      • Isaac James will focus on playing CB.  Allen says he expects James will also rotate into the Husky role, as needed.
