The post-game press conference with Indiana head coach Archie Miller after a too close for comfort win over Northwestern on Wednesday night felt more like a group therapy session rather than the dissection of a basketball game. If you had walked into the room uninformed you might have guessed that we were discussing a 3-12 team rather than 12-3. But like you and me, Miller knows that those 12 wins, and especially the victory over Northwestern, don’t tell the full story. To even the casual observer, something doesn’t seem right with this group.  To the head coach, something seems very…

The Indiana women just keep setting new standards. Before 5,159 fans at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Indiana put together a dominant wire-to-wire effort against in-state rival Purdue on Thursday night. With redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg leading the way with 18 points, the Hoosiers defeated the Boilermakers 66-48 to move to 4-0 in the Big Ten for the first time in program history.  Indiana’s No. 12 national ranking is also a program all-time best. This first name that came to mind when I heard that Indiana was going to name position coach Nick Sheridan as their next offensive coordinator was Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. Not because of similarities in scheme or background or anything specific like that, but Sheridan, like McVay, is young.  Very young. At just 31 years old, Sheridan is very young for power five coordinator standards.  In fact, he…

They say a win is a win — a “Big Ten win” as IU head coach Archie Miller called his team’s 66-62 victory against Northwestern on Wednesday night.  There is no arguing any of that.  Indiana did indeed win. But disturbing is disturbing, and that might be the best word to describe the current state of the IU basketball program.  Things change over the course of a season, and right now IU can get to work on improving after a win, pulling one out in Bloomington against a team that ostensibly is the Big…
