Report: Indiana Basketball Has Offered 2022 In-State Forward Jalen Washington

Chalk up the first Indiana basketball offer for the recruiting class of 2022.

Based on a report, IU has offered one of the top incoming sophomores in the country in Gary West Side forward Jalen Washington.

Congratulations to Gary WestSide’s 2022 F Jalen Washington @jalen_w13 for receiving an offer from Indiana University… @nikemeanstreets

Based on another report, the offer came at Indiana’s team camp last weekend.  Purdue has also offered Washington after he participated in their team camp this week.

Washington missed most of his freshman season with a shoulder injury but returned in February and averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds per game as a freshman at West Side.

Recruiting service 247Sports gave this report on Washington in May:

“There is very little question that Washington will be one of the best prospects in the class of 2022 when it is all said and done. Washington is already 6-foot-8 with great length, and it looks like he will continue to grow. To go along with those physical tools, Washington also has a pretty solid skill level for a prospect with his size and at his age. All weekend long, Washington was tremendous for Meanstreets, and he helped to lead them to a deep run at the event. Washington does most of his damage from 12 feet and in right now, but he did hit a few threes as well, and could in time be a pick and pop threat.”

    Rivals gave this assessment:

“Washington is about 6-foot-7, has skill, moves well and has long arms. He doesn’t force things and seems pretty comfortable on both ends of the floor. I don’t know if he will continue to grow like Kevon Looney did, but I heard a few comparisons to him and I can see that. No matter who he compares to, he’s one whose development will be watched closely.”

ESPN lists Washington as the No. 14 player in the country in the 2022 class and the No. 1 player in Indiana.  The main recruiting sites do not have rankings yet for the class of 2022.  He appears to be on track to be a 5-star rated recruit when those services publish rankings for the class.

Because of his age there is not a lot of good video yet on Washington.  You can find him here (No. 13) with his Chicago based Meanstreets AAU team.
