(Update: We are hearing on Friday that this visit may not happen, perhaps in connection with the Armaan Franklin commitment)

Valparaiso, Indiana native Brandon Newman is scheduled to take an official visit to IU this weekend.  The rising star in the northwestern corner of the Hoosier State recently named a top four list and is coming off an official visit at Purdue.

Newman had originally intended to transfer for his senior year to Montverde Academy in Florida, but has decided to return to Valparaiso to attend to a family matter.

As a classic two-guard, Newman is best known as a perimeter shooter, and he has an improving game off the dribble.  He is also a strong rebounding guard and a more than capable defender.

You can see all of the key essential information on Newman, video highlights, a recent interview, and all of The Daily Hoosier’s coverage of the class of 2019 four-star guard below.

Timeline — Newman hasn’t established a clear timeline. He took an official visit to Purdue on the weekend of September 1 and is taking an official visit to IU on the weekend of September 8.

    • Expect late summer / early fall visits, and a decision in the October/November time frame.

Indiana Connections — Newman has reportedly established a good relationship with the IU coaching staff.  He is also close with his former AAU teammate and IU class of 2019 commit Armaan Franklin.

    Key Stats —

    • Averaged 24.9 points and nine rebounds per game last season for Valparaiso.
    • Averaged 17.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for Meanstreets on the Nike EYBL

    QUOTABLE

“I like the way they play, really. I really enjoyed myself when they beat Northwestern by like 20. They’re fast, they like to run. They have guys that can make shots.”
